Shining a Light on a Special Area

Night of the Arts

Mark your calendars for April 9th where you will get to see a wide variety of arts in performance and on display! Some activities planned for Night of the Arts include:

  • 4th Grade Recorder Concert
  • Student Poetry Readings
  • Student Art Show (AND Ms. Allen's art on display!)
  • Small Ensemble Performances from our Band Students
  • Student Demonstrations of Gymnastics, Dance, and Karate
  • Awesome Food as we partner with the PTO's International Food Festival
  • And more! You don't want to miss it!

Library
Spring Book Fair - "Don't LEAF Without a Good Book!"
Explore our Jungle Book Fair and go on the hunt for some adventurous books! Our Spring Book Fair is right around the corner, March 12th through 18th. The book fair will be open: 
  • Thursday, March 12th, Monday the 16th, & Tuesday the 17th from 7:30am-3:30pm
  • Friday the 13th ALL DAY during Conferences
  • March 18th from 7:30am until we pack up the fair at 1:45pm
We need parent volunteers to make our book fair the best it can be! We have opportunities to help with setup, take down, running registers, assisting shoppers, and donating items. For more information about volunteering click here:   https://www.scholastic.com/bf/discoveryschoolexplorers

Music
Don't forget to add these performance dates to your calendars!

  • March 9th - Mass Choir Concert with select DS Choir members

P.E.
  • Mrs. Turnbow is looking ahead to May and would love for any parents interested in helping plan our field day in May to contact her ASAP! 
  • In PE this month K-2 are finishing a dance unit and 3-6 are wrapping up a badminton unit. 
  • Don't forget that tennis shoes on gym days are the expectation for all students!
Art

Ms. Allen is busy getting ready for Night of the Arts in April and is looking for donations of the following:
  • newspapers
  • mid-sized scissors (not kid-sized but also not adult-sized: see photo for reference)
  • new or gently used Crayola brand markers. Students may drop those off in the art room anytime.




Makerspace and STEAM Lab  
Ms. Greene and Ms. London continue to be so thankful for all the donations that have been made to help our STEAM explorations be a success this year! 

Finally from all of us, don't forget to look for your student and their class in action on  Class Dojo ! Your special area teachers have been sharing some amazing photos that you won't want to miss!
