Join the Jefferson PTO Today!

Unfortunately, due to the pandemic, we are unable to host many of our fundraising events, including our largest, most exciting event - Fall Festival. Because of this, we need your support more than ever!

Our main goal this year is to help the students, families, and staff of Jefferson School directly by providing important necessities that many of us take for granted. More details to follow soon. Please consider this when making your donation, and mark on the membership form if you would like a portion of your donation to support this cause directly.

Some initiatives that we have accomplished already include providing the teachers a welcome back lunch, securing two canopy tents for outdoor classroom use, and providing empty travel hand sanitizers to our Jefferson children who did not have any. Other initiatives we have planned for this year are Teacher Appreciation Week, supplying Jefferson with masks for children who do not have one, providing Jefferson masks for our teachers, and more! But we need your help to accomplish our goals!

***Now, an even easier way to submit membership fees***

We appreciate your help and love for our Jaguar family!

Get the FLU Shot for FREE!

As the flu season approaches, Union County is offering a series of free flu shot drives in local communities to help ensure that everyone has access to a free seasonal flu vaccine at a convenient location, especially residents who have no health insurance. Protection against seasonal flu is more important than ever before due to the COVID-19 outbreak.

Oct. 1 - Elizabeth (Peterstown Community Center, 408 Palmer Street)
Oct. 8 - Plainfield (Plainfield Performing Arts Center, 1111 East 2nd Street)
Oct. 15 - Hillside (Hillside Community Center, 274 Hillside Avenue)
Oct. 22 - Roselle (Abraham Clark High School, 122 East 6th Street)
Oct. 29 - Westfield (location to be determined)
Nov. 5 - Summit (Summit Community Center, 100 Morris Avenue)
Nov. 12 - Linden (location to be determined)
Nov. 19 - Rahway (Rahway Recreation Center, 275 East Milton Street)

For additional updates visit the "Upcoming Flu Drives" page on the County website, at ucnj.org. Any Union County resident age four and up can visit any of the seasonal flu shot drive events and receive a free flu shot. Persons with health insurance are advised to visit their local pharmacy or doctor's office.

Please note that the Union County flu shot drive is for seasonal flu vaccines only. There is no vaccine available for the COVID-19 virus at this time

Union County residents are also reminded that the COVID-19 virus is far more deadly than seasonal flu, and it spreads more easily. Someone infected with the COVID-19 virus can spread it simply by talking, even if they show no visible signs of illness.

Prevent the FLU
Good hand washing is the single most effective way to prevent the spread of germs as it is now the use of face masks and social distancing.

Some additional prevention tips include:
  • Wiping down the fridge, faucet handles and doorknobs.
  • Avoid sharing cups, utensils and cell phones.
  • Always cover your mouth with a tissue when you cough and sneeze, and if you don't have a tissue handy, use your upper arm, not your hands to cover your mouth.
  • Avoid touching your eyes, mouth or nose because your hands transfer bacteria and viruses between your hands and face.
Keep Children Home If...

As we return to school, we are happy to have your child healthy and ready to learn, however it is extremely important that if your child is feeling under the weather, PLEASE KEEP THEM HOME FROM SCHOOL! A fever (or lack of) should not always be the deciding factor. If your child arrives at school not feeling well, you will be called to pick them up.

If your child has had close contact with a COVID-19 case, they should not go to school and you should call your child's health care provider or pediatrician.

Reporting an Illness & Absence

Please call the school by 8:00am if your child will be absent from school and also complete the ILLNESS REPORTING if the absence is due to illness. Also our phone systems have changed and the easiest way to reach the school is to call Jefferson School at (908) 273-3807 and enter Ext. 6352 from Mrs. Vartan or 6351 for Nurse Mendez.
