Summit Public Schools Health Office Update
Due to the increase in community transmission, NJ is currently at an Orange Matrix Level or High Risk for COVID-19 transmission, therefore the NJ Department of Health updated their guidelines on the exclusion criteria when students and/or family members are experiencing symptoms of COVID-19 which could include any of the following:
- Fever or chills; Cough; Shortness of breath or difficulty breathing; Fatigue; Muscle or body aches; Headache; New loss of taste or smell; Sore Throat; Congestion or runny nose; Nausea or vomiting; Diarrhea.
Please note that a NEGATIVE COVID TEST is now the required document to return to school for any child experiencing symptoms of COVID-19.
Household contacts of someone who is ill with symptoms of COVID-19
The new Summit illness policy has recently changed based on the new Department of Health guidelines.
If a parent, sibling, or other household contact of a student is experiencing any symptoms of COVID-19, the student must stay home and quarantine for 14 days or until a negative COVID-19 test is provided for the parent, sibling, or household contact.
Again, students who are family members or household contacts of an individual with COVID-19 symptoms should quarantine for 14 days or until the ill individual tests negative for COVID-19.
Please contact your child's school nurse with any questions.
