May Day, Cinco de Mayo, Mother's Day and a royal wedding, oh my!, May certainly is bringing us a lot of exciting moments and fun festivities.  May also brought us an amazing Teacher Appreciation Week filled with flowers and lunches and homemade cards, thank you all so much for making our amazing Lakeview staff feel SO very loved and appreciated!  

With a couple of weeks left in the month, we still have our Volunteer Tea fast approaching AND our auction on June 1stGot tickets?  You won't want to miss amazing items such as; John Legend tickets, a Suncadia stay, C-17 simulator and flight tour, Seahawk tickets, Mariner tickets, Sounders tickets and MUCH more....please know that once we sell out, we can't add any more tickets so PLEASE don't delay! 

 
We want to thank the awesome volunteers and we hope you all enjoy an amazing Memorial Day....and you thought we forgot:  According to an old Cornish superstition, it was unlucky to buy a new broom or wash a blanket in the month of May.  Yep, you're welcome!

Heidi Coebergh Bench Dedication
May 15

This April marks the one-year anniversary of the passing of our friend and colleague, teacher Heidi Coebergh. The family and Lakeview Elementary staff invite you to join us as we gather to dedicate a bench in her honor and take time to pause and reflect on her legacy.

Lakeview Bike to School Day
Wednesday, May 16
 
All grades are welcome to participate in Bike to School Day and park their bikes at school; please remember that K-3 graders must ride with an adult.

Golden Acorn Award Submissions
Due 5/18


Each year Lakeview PTSA gives out the Golden Acorn Award to recognize a volunteer who has given outstanding service to all children in the school community. The Golden Acorn Award winner receives a gold pin in the shape of an acorn and a special certificate. A contribution is made to the Washington State PTA Financial Grant Program in their name. This program provides grants to Washington State high school graduates entering their freshman year in college or vocational school.

We welcome nominations from students, parents, teachers and any members of the community. This year's recipient will be honored at the Volunteer Tea on May 24.

Please submit your nominations by Friday, May 18, 2018. If you have any questions please contact Cate Emerick.

Taming of the Shrew
May 18 and 19

The Panther Playhouse presents their Elvis inspired musical adaptation of William Shakespeare's The Taming of the Shrew at 7pm on Friday May 18, 2018 and Saturday May 19, 2018 in the Kirkland Middle School commons. The show is free for all students and $10 suggested donation for adults.  You can purchase tickets here or at the door.


Help Wanted: Egg Drop Volunteers
June 5
 
The Egg Drop is coming to Lakeview Tuesday, June 5th! Parents, we could use your help with:

1) collecting contraptions in the morning 
2) checking if the eggs survived their 80ft drops in the afternoon.

Lakeview Marathon
Still Running!
 
The Lakeview Marathon will kick off on Monday April 16 and continue till May 25. On marathon days, kids can run laps around the field during lunch recess -- 6 laps is one mile and 158 laps is a marathon! Many volunteers are needed to punch student lap cards and cheer them on in their quest  to finish a marathon.  Click here to sign up to help. Get more details on the PTSA website.


Summer Enrichment
July 6-August 2

Lake Washington School District is offering new and exciting summer enrichment opportunities for students who will be entering grades K-5 in the fall.  Is your child interested in a Drama Camp?  Integrated Art/Writing Camp?  STEM Camp?  Register today! Programs will run July 6-August 2 (two separate ten day sessions available) at Ben Rush Elementary from 8:30 a.m.-noon.  Limited shuttle transportation is available.  Register for programs here.
