MESSAGE FROM THE PTSO PRESIDENTS

We hope you all had a wonderful start to the 2019-2020 school year and enjoyed the long holiday weekend!
 
A few reminders -- 

- The PTSO's only fundraiser -- Advance the Excellence -- to raise funds to support our students, faculty, staff and school is taking place.  We hope that you will help make a difference by donating here .  

- Your students should have brought home the Back to School packet.  You can also find the Back to School information, volunteer, sign up for our weekly newsletter and learn about the PTSO resources for parents and students at our newly updated website www.whsptso.org.

- We have our first PTSO meeting coming up on Wednesday, September 11th at 9am.  We hope that you will join us.  The agenda will include, among other things, the following: 
  • Principal Dr. Jaime Chisum and his leadership team;
  • Update from School Committee;
  • Navigating the NEW PTSO Website; and 
  • Approval of the Minutes and presentation of the 2019-2020 PTSO Budget.

The HunchBack of Notre Dame  is coming to WHS this fall!
A note from Kara Sullivan, the Drama Director at WHS:
Hi everyone! I cannot believe that we are starting to think about the 2019/2020 WHS season! I am so excited! I am so happy to have a year under my belt and I am excited for the year ahead!  Auditions for Hunchback of Notre Dame will be here before we know it! This year we have a Signup Genius for Choral Auditions and a Signup Genius for Dance Auditions. For Choral, you need to prepare 18 bars of a song in the style of the show. The links below will give you some ideas. Please do not prepare a song from the show. (However, you should know the music should you be called back!)  Sign up for 1 ten minute slot for Choral and 1 forty five minute slot for dance. There are two links...make sure that you sign up in both. (choral and dance).  

The music auditions will take place on September 3-6. The dance auditions will be on September 3 & 4.

There will be an Audition workshop on Thursday, August 29th from 2:30-4 in the Little Theatre. This is a great opportunity to ask questions, get ideas and meet fellow thespians!

Highlights from Guidance Department ... 
The WHS Guidance Department has organized a series of parent evening presentations for the 2019-2020 Academic Year.  A list of those events can be found on their website here.  We will in the weekly blast try to highlight upcoming events, but we encourage and recommend that parents regularly check the Guidance Department website.

- September 11th - Standardized Testing Night, recommended for juniors and parents

- September 25th - Senior Parent Night

- October 2nd - Navigating the College Process with Students with Learning Disabilities, recommended for juniors/seniors and parents

Community News ...  Wellesley PAC Coffee

Please join the Wellesley PAC for the first monthly coffee of the 2019-2020 school year on Thursday, September 5. The coffee will be held  from 9-10:30 am at the home of Christine Mizzi at  16 Suffolk Road.  It is a nice opportunity for parents and caregivers to get together, share information and offer support to one another.
