March 21, 2025

As Methodists, we are called to cultivate more disciples and deeper disciples of Jesus Christ for the transformation of our community and world. You are invited to join us on the journey.

This week

Join Us for Worship

Join us this Lenten season as we reflect on the profound last words of Jesus while on the cross. Through this powerful sermon series, we'll uncover the love and truth revealed in Christ’s last moments, drawing us closer to the heart of the Gospel and preparing us to celebrate the joy of Easter.

Looking Ahead

Celebrate Tory with Us!

Pinehurst UMC will forever be indebted to Tory Wright for his leadership at PUMC. He has served the Church and led the choir well for over 6 years. Sometime back, Tory prayerfully made the decision to step away from choral leadership and to enter more fully into a new season of life. Come have a slice of cake and help us celebrate Tory and to send him off well following the 8:15 and 11:00 worship services on March 30.

Flannery O'Connor Book Study

Through tales of violence, hatred, illness, and oddness, Flannery O’Connor presents her readers

with opportunities to ponder the limitations of human understandings of truth, by way of

peculiar characters in peculiar situations. Like Jesus, Flannery tells strange stories. Flannery’s

strange short stories rattle and puzzle the reader while subtly revealing grace.

Beginning April 22 and ending June 3, Pastor Jabe will be leading a Tuesday evening class at 6pm on Flannery and her works entitled: Beauty in Suffering. We will make use of her

short stories and a couple of documentaries for our material. Participants will need to purchase

their own copy of her Complete Stories or Collected Works. For the class to be taught, a

minimum of 5 participants must sign up.

IMPORTANT DISCLAIMER: O’Connor uses violence and intense language to convey her messages. Although she is a devout Christian, who is subtly writing stories of grace and epiphany, O’Connor will use the language of the people she based many of her characters off of in her early 20 th century Georgia home. Certainly not a racist herself, O’Connor does write in characters using slurs to emphasize the ignorance of some characters in stories set in the early half of the 20 th century; the period of time in which she wrote, and a period of time in which racism was still overwhelmingly blatant in the deep south.

Contact Pastor Jabe with questions and/or to sign up.

Staying Connected

Interested in being a Conference Delegate?

Each year, the North Carolina Conference of the United Methodist Church seeks additional lay person delegates for Annual Conference. This is done to equalize the number of clergy and lay delegates. You have the ability to self-nominate through this link. The deadline is March 28th, and you are encouraged to nominate as early as you can. A nomination does not guarantee a spot.

Annual Conference takes place June 11-14 in Greenville, NC. All lay equalization delegates are responsible for their own travel and boarding.
