If we are being honest, we the people of God known as the Church have to admit that some of the stories found in our Holy Scriptures are particularly peculiar. These stories are still important narratives in the story of God. Join us weekly for worship 8/2 thru 9/6 as we engage in Strange Stories from Scripture involving a talking donkey, a disappearing sword, a bald prophet and bears, and much more.

School Supply Collection

Thank you for participating in this important school supply drive! Remember to drop off filled bags at the church by this Sunday, August 2.

Crackers & Fruit Cups

We continue to honor our weekly commitment to Meals on Wheels to provide 100 cracker packs and 100 fruit cups to provide snacks for seniors even during the summer. We are in need of both fruit cups and crackers.

Donations can be dropped off in the labeled baskets in the narthex.

Coffee Prep Volunteers

Here is the schedule to sign up to prep for Sunday morning coffee through September. If you are already a volunteer, pick your dates. If you are interested in volunteering, feel free to pick a date and Carrie Ruemmler will be in touch to give you all the details or contact her at 217-556-3167.

Promotion Sunday

On Sunday, August 9, we will be recognizing our children who are entering Kindergarten and 2nd grade during the worship services. We will be presenting them with a Bible and praying for them (and all students) to have an excellent school year!

If you have a student entering Kindergarten or 2nd grade, please contact Kelly McLeran so we can be sure to recognize them during Promotion Sunday!

Kids Sunday School also resumes August 9.

Christian Encounters New Study

Christian Encounters will begin a new 6-week study August 9 “The God of How and When” by Kathie Lee Gifford and Rabbi Sobel. The study is about Abraham, Sarah, Moses , Joshua and Mary.

The class meets at 9:30am in Room 114-C. New participants are always welcome!

Connections Class New Study

The Connections Adult Sunday School class will begin a new study on August 9 called "Simon Peter; Flawed But Faithful Disciple" by Adam Hamilton. The class meets after the 9:40 service just beyond the nursery in Room 117. All are welcome!

Join the PUMC Belles

Ladies, do you love to sing, but just haven’t taken the leap yet? Consider joining the PUMC Belles for the special music slot on Sunday, August 23 for the 8:15 and 11:00 services. We will have rehearsals on Wednesday, Aug 12 and 19 at 5:45pm in the sanctuary. It is required that you attend at least one rehearsal. Consider “bringing a friend” - invite someone to join you (it’s not a requirement to participate, just encouragement).

New & Current Usher Training

Do you Usher at one of the three worship services at PUMC? Do you currently not usher or serve in a similar volunteer role, but have pondered doing so? If you answered “yes” or “maybe” to either of those questions, your presence is requested at an Usher Training on August 16 at 2pm. Regardless of past experience, all Ushers are asked to attend. Current and new Usher practices will be discussed during the training, including the role of Ushers in assisting our Emergency Action Plan first responders in particular types of events.

Emergency Action Plan

PUMC is incorporating a new Emergency Action Plan that will help us be more prepared for situations that arise during worship services and other events held at our campus. For this plan to be implemented fully, trained medical professionals and first responders within the congregation need to be identified and trained in our action plan protocols. If you have medical/first responder/CPR training, and are willing, please reach out to Pastor Jabe, jabe@pinehurstumc.org, so that you can be added to the list of possible responders. An in-person training session for all who are trained and willing, will be held at PUMC on Sunday, August 16 at 2:30pm.

Taming Your Money Monster

Join us on Tuesday, August 18 from 6-8pm for an evening with Doug Lynam, a former monk, an investment advisor, best-selling author, keynote speaker, and coach. Doug will give a condensed understanding of the enneagram and how knowing our enneagram type can help us identify the childhood wounds driving financial behavior, understand how money behaviors function as survival mechanisms, transform the shadow side of our coping mechanisms with the better parts of our true selves and harness the strengths of our Enneagram type for good in the world. All are welcome to attend! 

Brunch with the Bishop

All women of the church are invited to a special brunch with our Bishop, Connie Shelton! Join us at the church on Thursday, August 20 from 10am-12pm for a morning of fellowship, conversation, and connection as we gather around the table together. Whether you're new to the church or have been here for years, this is a wonderful opportunity to meet the bishop in a relaxed setting and share in the life of our church community. We hope you'll join us!

Dear PUMC,

Thank you so much for all of the cards, calls, prayers and visits during Gerald's 11 month battle with cancer. They helped to brighten our days and carry us through the tough ones. A special thanks to those of you who made the trip to Carthage UMC (my home church for 70 years) for the funeral. It meant so much to me seeing so many of you there.

I ask for your continued prayers as I try to adjust (after 50 years) to a life without Gerald. The last few weeks have been, and will continue to be, very difficult.

Flower Ministry Volunteers

Each Sunday, volunteers take the flowers from the altar, make individual arrangements and deliver to identified recipients. The deliveries can be made Sunday or Monday. If you are interested in joining this team of volunteers, call or text Gayle Geoghegan at 910-986-1887.
