School Opening Update: Necessary Shift in Middle School Opening to March 11

As you may be aware, Alameda County’s data was updated on Tuesday, March 2, on the State COVID-19 Dashboard. Although we are meeting the Red Tier metrics at this time, we will not officially enter the Red Tier unless our data holds for one more week.

Middle Schools
  • If, as expected, we enter the Red Tier next Tuesday (March 9th), we will adjust our return date for middle school students from March 8 to March 11. All middle school students will engage in remote instruction on March 8, 9, and 10, following the remote learning schedules that have been in place since the beginning of the year.

Elementary Report Card Change
The Assessment and Accountability Department would like to share with all Elementary Parents/Guardians that TK-5 Elementary Report Cards will be available for viewing in the Illuminate Parent Portal beginning March 12 at 12 noon. The timeline for Trimester 2 has been extended by an additional four days to allow teachers time to complete report cards as they also navigate the orientation, transition and planning necessary for the return to in person learning. In November, PUSD began the practice of using the Parent Portal in Illuminate as a way for parents/guardians to access their student’s report card. Parents/Guardians can log into PUSD’s Illuminate Parent Connection at this link: https://pleasanton.illuminatehc.com/login and use your username (email address) and the password you created in the Fall to access the Parent Portal. For Parents/Guardians who need additional assistance please reference this document.

Parenting Tips from your School Social Worker Team
Handling Stress As a Parent Or Caregiver
A vital part of your child’s mental health is your own mental health. When parenting or caregiving gets overwhelming, it is important to separate yourself from the situation and not take your child’s behavior personally. Part of any child’s growth is developing identity, which often involves pushing back. Taking a timeout from a conflict can be a great way of coping with high-intensity situations. When you and your child both take some time to breathe and process the situation independently, it can often diffuse the tension. As a parent or caregiver, you are modeling to your child how to handle stress and how to take care of yourself. Research shows that parents or caregivers who practice self-care have more stable and regulated children. Parents or caregivers can model self-care by seeking out mental health counseling if needed, getting adequate amounts of sleep, eating nutritious foods, exercising regularly, tending to their own relationships, and taking time to be involved in hobbies they enjoy. First Day of In-Person School!
Mohr and Fairlands Complete 7-Day Walking Challenge!
Last week, Mohr and Fairlands participated in an exciting walking challenge. What started as a Dash Across California turned into a Dash Across America after exceeding expectations!

Around 850 students and staff from both schools walked 14.5 million steps - nearly 6,000 miles! They used pedometers provided by the PTA to count their steps, and learned about various national parks along the way.

Leading up to the challenge, students were reminded about how to be safe when walking during webinars hosted by SafeMoves.

Great job, Flyers and Eagles!
Foothill DECA Achieves THRIVE Level Recognition
Foothill DECA was one of 324 chapters to achieve THRIVE level recognition this year!

In order to receive this recognition, Foothill DECA completed chapter requirements for the Promotional Campaign and Global Entrepreneurship Week Campaign. The campaigns included a variety of school and community outreach activities.

"I love the chapter campaigns as they provide an opportunity for our officers to manage a variety of projects that enhances their learning and puts their business and marketing skills into action,” Advisor Tami Raaker said. “It also brings positive awareness to this great organization!"

The chapter will be commended at DECA's International Career Development Conference in April.
