Scholarship Opportunities

Local non-profit Amador Valley Scholarships Inc. is offering multiple scholarships for high school seniors at Amador Valley, Foothill, and Village High Schools!

A new scholarship is the Zachary Scanlan Memorial Scholarship. Zachary, a 2016 Foothill graduate, set up the scholarship before passing away in November after a battle with cancer. He wished to have a scholarship go to a Foothill graduate who may have struggled with academics in high school.

See all available scholarships and their guidelines at amadorvalleyscholarshipsinc.org

Parenting Tips from your School Social Worker Team
The Dangers of Mixing Medication and Alcohol
Although Adderall is prescribed for treating ADHD and narcolepsy, teens who do not need the medication are finding that they can use it to get high. Adderall is a stimulant, so it increases attention and energy, and is often used with alcohol, so that one can drink for longer without getting drowsy and passing out. Mixing the two produces side effects of excitement, euphoria, alertness, increased blood pressure, increased pulse, insomnia and loss of appetite. However, it can also lead to alcohol poisoning and seizures. Parents or caregivers can be involved by keeping track of their child’s Adderall supply if they have a prescription and explaining the risks of using Adderall if you don’t have a prescription for it. To learn more, check out the Online Drug & Alcohol Series: What’s the High About developed by your School Social Workers. Brought to you by your PBIS School Social Workers.
