Letter to Governor & Reopening Update
With the California Department of Public Health's (CDPH) adoption of the 3 foot distancing guideline, the PUSD Board of Trustees is advocating to Governor Newsom that the State adopt clear and consistent guidelines around stable cohorts to allow for a safe return to full-time in person learning in Fall 2021. We share the strong belief that students need to return to in-person learning, which is why PUSD was the first District in the county to reopen preschool through 12th grade in a hybrid model. If we are to return to a 5-day per week, full time schedule for all students, the Board of Trustees are advocating for a 'single set of defined metrics that can be relied upon'. Read the letter. Learn more about current CDPH guidance for school reopening.

Parenting Tips from your School Social Worker Team
Supporting Healthy Sleep Patterns
Sleep patterns are core to the mental and physical health of youth. Research shows that children and adolescents need more sleep than adults due to the growth and maturation of the brain that happens as they sleep. Chronic sleep deprivation is linked to physical signs of stress, as well as mental health disorders. Parents or caregivers can support their students by having a firm bedtime and setting limits on the use of technology at night in order to help their students effectively wind down. To learn more about how to support your student in balancing their mental health, check out the online Parent/Caregiver Education series on Supporting Your Student Struggling with Depression developed by your PUSD Social Workers. Brought to you by your PBIS School Social Workers.

DECA and PPIE Virtual Mock Interview Program
Foothill DECA and PPIE partnered to organize their annual mock interview program last week! Students in Foothill's Regional Occupational Program business classes had the opportunity to interview with and learn from distinguished business professionals. The students and interviewers had virtual meetings that involved opening pitches, standard interview questions and feedback from the interviewer.

“I had the honor of organizing the Virtual Mock Interviews this year in partnership with PPIE to run this amazing event," Foothill DECA's Vice President of Membership Development Kelsey Lem said. "It's a rewarding experience for both the students and interviewers and I am so grateful to be involved. We could not have run this event without the help and support of our many volunteer interviewers who dedicated their time to contributing the students' professional development.”
