Message From the Superintendent Regarding Public Health Order

Dear PUSD community

Thank you for your partnership as we welcomed our students back for a new school year. I walked many campuses these past few days and spent time in classrooms with teachers and students who were so excited to be back at school. I felt the same way. I am looking forward to the days and weeks ahead.

I wanted to ensure you received information regarding the Governor’s announcement Wednesday of a Health Order, issued by the California Department of Public Health (CDPH), that requires all public and private schools to verify the vaccination status of all their employees, contractors and service providers, as well as volunteers who are on our campuses. Individuals in those positions who are not fully vaccinated (or for whom vaccination documentation is not provided) are required to participate in COVID-19 testing at least once per week.

Daily Health Screener
If you are not receiving the daily health screener, please temporarily fill out a guest screener at pusdedu.info/dhs.

In addition, we ask that those who aren't receiving the screener fill out a Daily Health Screener Concerns form at pusdedu.info/studentdhs for students and pusdedu.info/staffdhs for staff.

Mental Health Resource

As our community prepares for this year’s historic back-to-school season and the full reopening of our school campuses, we expect returning to in-person learning will bring both relief and possibly different challenges as we adjust to a different school experience.

AVHS Graduate Receives Alan Hu Scholarship
2021 AVHS graduate Esha Patel was awarded the 2021 Alan Hu Foundation Scholarship!

"I chose to pursue a career in medicine, specifically in Neuroscience, because I eagerly want to be the listener for those who suffer from psychiatric disorders, while also trying my best to be the healer and leave a meaningful impact in others’ lives," Esha said. "The stigma surrounding psychiatric disorders can be removed by a more educated and united society, and I aspire to use this award as a launchpad into a life full of dedicated research and service."

Esha spent the summer interning for a UCSF professor in the Memory and Aging Center and will major in pre-sciences at the University of Washington.

Congrats, Esha!
