Foothill Choral Program Presents Virtual Spring Concert

Foothill High School's Choral Program premiered its virtual spring concert on Youtube last night!

With help from PPIE and Foothill Administrators, choral students had access to a cloud-based Digital Audio Workstation. This allowed them to use their school-issued tech equipment to record music remotely all year long! In addition, a PTSA Grant funded a MacBook Pro that could handle the editing required to turn the student recordings into a polished product.

"After this year, we have all realized the magical parts of choir that are so easily taken for granted,” Foothill’s Director of Choral Music Katrina Brekke said. “I am so proud of the resilient students who put their hearts into continuing to make music this year, in spite of all the challenges, and now we have an incredible, shareable snapshot of what we can still accomplish, together, even at a great distance."

Parenting Tips from your School Social Worker Team
Supporting Your Child's Mental Health

Depression is one of the most common mental disorders in the U.S., and we know that it is caused by a combination of factors. These can include personal or family history of depression, major life changes, trauma, stress, and certain physical illnesses and medications. The good news is that depression can be treated and the earlier that treatment can begin, the more effective it is proven to be. Some symptoms include: persistent sad, anxious or “empty” moods, feelings of hopelessness, irritability, feelings of guilt, loss of interest in pleasurable activities, decreased energy or fatigue, moving or talking more slowly, feeling restless, difficulty concentrating, appetite and/or weight changes, and physical symptoms such as aches, pains, headaches, or cramps with no clear cause. Parents or caregivers can support their child by alerting their child’s primary physician if they observe any of these symptoms. To learn more about how to support your student in balancing their mental health, check out the online Parent/Caregiver Education series on Supporting Your Student Struggling with Depression developed by your PUSD Social Workers. Brought to you by your PBIS School Social Workers.
