Message from the Vice President
Welcome to the inaugural monthly newsletter for the Division of Research & Innovation (R&I) at Prairie View A&M University (PVAMU). As Vice President of the growing PVAMU research and innovation enterprise, it gives me great honor to introduce you to “On The RISE.”
 
Since arriving at Prairie View A&M in 2019, I have been on a mission of realigning, innovating, and elevating the research enterprise. This newsletter is another example of the significant success the R&I team and our outstanding researchers are achieving.
 
The “RISE” in the name of our newsletter reflects what we value: Research & Innovation for Scholarly Excellence. As a growing research institution, PVAMU is increasing its research funding, federal and industry partnerships, and economic and community impact. Each month our newsletter will deliver to you news and information demonstrating how PVAMU is “On The RISE!”

Faculty Team Share $10M Grant to Increase Diversity in Public Health Informatics and Technology

PVAMU research faculty will collaborate with UTHealth Houston to train students, create a pipeline to sponsored internships, and future public health careers.
Frizell Secures $954K to Increase Students Pursing Graduate Degrees in Computer Science and Engineering

Sherri Frizell leads the PVAMU partnership in a National Science Foundation collaboration Rice, Jackson State, and Texas Southern Universities.
Mechanical Engineering Team Secures $3M Consortium Grant

Rambod Rayegan, Ph.D., Lai Jian, Ph.D., and Xiaobo Peng, P.D. have partnered with two universities in New Mexico for the US. Department of Energy National Nuclear Security Agency Labs and Plants program.

Lucy Nwosu, Doctoral Student
As the COVID-19 pandemic began to unfurl across the world in 2020, it spurned a life-changing research opportunity for Prairie View A&M University (PVAMU) student Lucy Nwosu, who is a doctoral student in electrical engineering in the Roy G. Perry College of Engineering.
Innovation
Panthers Invent - Student Innovation Competition
Panthers Invent is a new initiative led by its Center for Innovation, Commercialization, Entrepreneurship, and Economic Development (ICEED).
During the challenge from September 17-19, 2021, students faced real-life design needs statements and competed for the best product/solution. The contest offered $2250 in scholarship prizes.
