Building a Foundation for the Future

Letter from Dr. Luft

Dear Putnam Valley Community:

It has been a pleasure to see so many of you in and around our buildings for our plays, award ceremonies, and spring concerts. Please take a few minutes to read through this communication to catch up on news from our buildings.

On behalf of the Putnam Valley Board of Education, thank you for your support of our 2023-2024 budget and your participation in the school board election. We remain focused on moving our district forward in innovative ways while respecting the financial implications for our community. We are grateful for your participation in the process. Our team starts working on the next year’s budget immediately, and I encourage everyone to stay engaged. Your input is vital.

Congratulations to Crystal Hernandez on her election to the Board of Education and many thanks to Joe Ferraro for his years of service as a board trustee.

We are looking forward to continuing our end-of-year celebrations, and we will be sure to capture the highlights in our next newsletter.

As always, thank you for your partnership.

Sincerely,

Dr. Jeremy Luft

Honoring PVHS Students

Christian Nolan was honored for his ASPIRE artwork entitled "Bridge to Tranquility." ASPIRE stands for:

  • Awareness
  • Safety
  • Perseverance
  • Integrity
  • Respect
  • Empathy

The ASPIRE acronym was developed several years ago as part of the high school's goals for Positive Behavior Interventions and Support. Each year, a student's artwork is selected as the ASPIRE image for the school year and hung in the Tiger's Den for all to see and appreciate. Congratulations to Christian on receiving this important honor!

At this year's Putnam County Youth Bureau Ceremony, Julianna DeGiorgio and Faith Carravone were recognized for their dedication to volunteerism in their community. Every year, the Youth Bureau gathers students receiving awards, their families, and community leaders together to honor the students. We are so proud of these hard-working and dedicated Tigers and thank them for their exemplary community service that benefits the residents of Putnam Valley and Putnam County.

Media Production Class

Makes the News!

In the April issue of the Putnam County Courier, Mr. Eric Gross highlighted our Media Production class, led by Ms. Catherine Schoetz and Mr. Dan Mahoney. Fun fact:

Mr. Mahoney and Ms. Schoetz were selected to present at the International Society for Technology in Education Conference in Philadelphia this summer for their innovative Color Wars live stream through the Media Production class! Check out the article and read more about this great class here.

Parents and children chatted and celebrated together while feasting on shawarma, meatballs, and even French Fries from Mcdonald's! We thank the wonderful educators featured here for all of the hard work that went into organizing such a well attended and fun community event!

Students and parents came to PVES on Wednesday, May 17, to participate in a family game night. Strong math thinking, number strategies, and dessert treats engaged the group! Fun was had by all!

Our wonderful educators were celebrated throughout the week of May 8 through May 12. As always, we are so appreciative of our talented and dedicated teachers and teaching assistants, and we thank them for all they do each and every day for our students.

PVMS Career Fair

As we begin the career exploration process, we introduce middle school students to Naviance, our school’s online program. This year, our school counselor, Kendall Coleman-McKenna organized a career fair which was held in our Wellness Center on May 5. This event was made possible by our parent and community volunteers who spent the morning sharing their day-to-day experiences and answering questions from our students.

It was a great success.

Thank you to everyone who participated!
