Dear Sea King Families,

I continued to have tremendous gratitude for our Sea King community and our collective efforts to keep our campus safe and healthy with our students learning in person! This can only continue to happen if we remain vigilant with following the mitigation strategies that have been established by our district to combat this COVID surge.

One of those strategies is encouraging all of our students to utilize the home COVID test kit that was distributed on Friday at school. The goal is to identify any students who may be COVID positive prior to returning to campus on Tuesday. Families do NOT need to report negative test results to return to school on Tuesday. Please alert us immediately if your student tests positive for COVID and keep your student quarantined at home. A PHVS administrator will be in touch with the family regarding the next steps.

As I have continued to emphasize, if your student is experiencing any flu or cold-like symptoms, please keep your student at home. I understand the difficulty for our students to be out of class, but it is important we are protecting everyone's health by staying home when sick. To that end, our teachers have begun to offer office hours to support students who are out of class and need assistance with catching up on their assignments. The office hours will be conducted virtually for a designated hour Monday - Thursday. Participating teachers will be notifying their students of their established schedule with information posted in their Google classroom. This program is currently established to run through January 31, 2022. I hope our students will take advantage of this opportunity to receive additional support and assistance from our teachers.

If there is anything I can do to support your student and your family, please continue to reach out to me. I am proud to serve as the principal to our amazing PVHS students, teachers, staff, and families.

I hope your family is enjoying a relaxing holiday weekend!
See you on Tuesday Sea Kings!

Sincerely,

Dr. Trista Ramirez
PVHS Principal (Interim)

General Information
COVID-19 ANTIGEN TEST KIT DISTRIBUTION

On Friday, January 14th, iHealth COVID-19 Antigen rapid test kits were distributed to PVHS students during their 5th-period class. We are asking all students to take one of the two tests tomorrow, Monday, January 17th to verify a negative COVID test before returning to school on Tuesday.

Students who are recently recovered from COVID-19 within the last 90 days and are asymptomatic do not need to test on Monday.

Please view the video below which shows how to use the test materials.

If your student tests positive for COVID on Monday, please refer to the instructions below on reporting those positive results to the PVHS administration. We have created a form for families to complete to alert us to positive COVID results. Only positive test results need to be reported.
You do NOT need to notify us of negative test results.

We appreciate our students participating in this COVID testing on Monday. Our goal is to keep our students safe and healthy on campus upon returning to school from a long holiday weekend.
PVHS COVID Positive Reporting Form

To streamline communication for COVID case reporting, we are asking families to fill out the form below if their students test positive for COVID. This will also be a way for us to respond much more efficiently and effectively to our students and families.

Please click the linked form below to notify us of your PVHS student's positive results.

A PVHS administrator will be in touch with the family regarding the next steps after completing the form.
PVPUSD COVID Testing Information

Palos Verdes Peninsula Unified School District continues to offer testing to PVPUSD STUDENTS and STAFF only. Regular Testing Hours from 12:00 p.m. with the last test at 4:45 p.m. No appointment is necessary, but students do need to register in advance. For further information regarding the district testing program, click HERE.
Athletics Update Regarding Indoor Competitions

Due to the current surge in COVID-19, and in alignment with current LACDPH protocols, PVPUSD has decided that spectators will be limited for indoor athletic competitions and only two (2) household members per participant will be allowed to attend. Access to those tickets will be handled internally within each team and lists will be checked at the door. No school staff, student body members, or community members will be allowed to attend.

Additionally, masks are required for all spectators at both outdoor and indoor athletic competitions while on campus. All spectators for indoor events will also be screened using the PVPUSD Green Screen clearance process.

We are hopeful that when the COVID-19 situation improves, we will be able to offer more opportunities for our students and community to support our PVHS athletic programs. There are no spectator limits for outdoor events so please check out an upcoming soccer or water polo game.

PVHS also offers a live stream of all home games through a subscription at the following website: https://www.nfhsnetwork.com/schools/palos-verdes-high-school-palos-verdes-estates-ca
Counseling Office Updates

Attention Sophomores & Parents/Guardians:

The PVHS Counseling Department will be delivering its annual Sophomore Counseling Program which supports the continued success of students as they pursue educational and career goals. There are two essential components of the Sophomore Counseling Program:
  1. Group Presentation: Provides general information pertinent to all students. There will be two group presentations offered, but please only attend one. Due to the current state of COVID, we will hold these meetings virtually via Webinar.
  2. Individual Meeting: Each student and their parent/guardian have the opportunity to sign up for a 15-minute counseling meeting with their counselor at the conclusion of the group presentation. Parents/guardians must attend one of the group presentations to access a link to schedule the individual meeting with their counselor.

Please see below to register for one session only. Both sessions will cover the exact same information.

The college admissions landscape is ever-changing, no more so than in these past two years. What do students and parents need to know about how best to begin investigating and navigating this journey?

We hope you'll register to attend this special virtual presentation on Wednesday, January 19, 6:30 pm to listen to Ms. Rees as she shares her insights and perspective on college admissions and how best to prepare for the road ahead! REGISTER HERE!

ALL GRADES WELCOME, but this is MOST IMPORTANT for the Classes of 2023 & 2024!
South Bay Families Connected:
Focus on youth wellness

Finally, after a full year of distance learning, some students have, understandably, experienced the return to in-person learning as a social challenge. PVPUSD partner South Bay Families Connected (SBFC), a network of 115 schools in the South Bay, has organized Teaching Social Skills: Resources for Parents and Guardians, which contains a video featuring students at local schools, including PVPUSD’s own Rhys Moon, sharing their perspectives regarding the social ups and downs of returning to in-person learning. There you will also find some useful tips to support your children and teens as they develop and refine their own social skills. For related resources, please visit the SBFC Healthy Relationships Page. The SBFC Virtual Teen Center contains a wide variety of mental health and wellness topics.
