OUR BOARD IS GROWING AND CHANGING!!!

WOW! We are excited to announce that during the February 15th Board Meeting, two new Board Members were elected, and a significant change in Board responsibilities was confirmed.

Tom Bolin, SW Quadrant, will assume the new Events Chair responsibilities. He will be leading all PVNA community building events. Tom has years of professional experience organizing various travel, conference, and corporation events. He was heavily involved with Art in the Garden last year and with the planning for this year’s event.

Jayla Rylie, also from the SW Quadrant, will assume the new Streets, Parks, and Beautification Chair. Jayla has been on the Traffic Circle Committee for over a year and their home was and will be part of Art in the Garden. She has broad experience working with local municipalities as a general contractor as well as in previous community board roles.

We also thanked Steve Poe for his years of Board service and confirmed Micah Samuelson as our new Communication Chair. Micah was most recently the SW Quad Representative. She has outstanding experience in social media, marketing, and communication, and designed the event flyers for the New Year Party in the Park and upcoming Plant Swap.

Welcome Micah, Jayla and Tom!

These changes were made in part in response to the neighborhood needs you expressed in our 2023 survey. We anticipate being able to meet those needs more effectively with these new additions and changes to the Board. Micah, Jayla and Tom will bring new energy and ideas to the Board and our neighborhood.

We are still in search of a replacement for our Treasurer. We also need new Board members for Safety Chair, At-Large Member, Co-Chair for Events, and NW, NE, SW Co-Reps for our Quadrants as well as a replacement for SW Quadrant Representative.

If you are interested in applying for a Board position, submit an application at www.paloverdeneighborhood.org/join-the-pvna-board. The process will continue until all positions are filled.

Curious about Board service? Send an email to info@paloverdeneighborhood.org,

or call VP Nancy Stromp at 520-912-0509 for additional information.

COMING SOON!!! PVNA will be on Instagram!!!

The Board approved adding Instagram to our portfolio of social media platforms. Communication Chair Micah S. will be leading the way for establishing our Instagram presence as well as helping to manage our Facebook page and group. Stay tuned for more soon!

PVNA House Number Painting - WE NEED YOUR INPUT!!!

The PVNA board is considering painting house address numbers on both the curbs and outside the back walls (alley side) of individual residences as a PVNA activity. Clearly visible address numbers are a significant aid to safety that help first responders (i.e. police and fire/medical services) quickly find the location of reported problems. House numbers can enable visitors and food/package delivery to find you more easily. These numbers are also required for neighbors taking part in Neighborhood Watch. Consider joining or starting a Neighborhood Watch with your immediate neighbors. Let us know if you’d like more information in the survey below.

PVNA would purchase the materials (paint and number stencils) from the PVNA budget or donations and map out specific areas to be completed. Neighborhood residents will be invited to participate in these workdays. Planned areas will be communicated by the weekly e-news, Facebook, Instagram, or other method, so the affected area residents will have prior notification.

Our new Streets, Parks and Beautification Chair, Jayla R., is currently researching the timing, resources, and process for this project and will report findings at the March Board Meeting. We hope to start this project in late March and complete a portion of it before the heat of the summer.

We want and need your input about the desirability and planning of this project. Please respond by completing the survey below, by email (info@paloverdeneighborhood.org) or to the PVNA phone # (520-222-6343) with your comments.

Calling all PVNA artists & volunteers!

Art in the Gardens, now in its second year, is a walking tour of participating gardens - at each garden you’ll find artists with their work on display and available for sale. The funds raised benefit PVNA.

We are recruiting all Tucson artists - if you know an artist who might be interested, invite them to sign up by February 25!

Last year's garden hosts had a great time working with their resident artists and greeting the enthusiastic public. We were thrilled with the response and look forward to even more excitement this year!

Reply to this email or contact info@paloverdeneighborhood.org if you have questions about signing up!

President's Day, Monday, February 19

The story of Presidents' Day date begins in 1800. Following the death of George Washington in 1799, his February 22 birthday became a perennial day of remembrance.

While Washington’s Birthday was an unofficial observance for most of the 1800s, it was not until the late 1870s that it became a federal holiday.

The shift from Washington’s Birthday to Presidents' Day began in the late 1960s, when Congress proposed a measure known as the Uniform Monday Holiday Act. This law sought to shift the celebration of several federal holidays from specific dates to a series of predetermined Mondays. (Source: History.com)

Note: In the Tucson Unified School District, most schools are not closed on Presidents Day. Most city, county, state and Federal offices are closed. Please check for specific closures.
