Palo Verde Bike Boulevard Meeting with PVNA

The City of Tucson Department of Transportation & Mobility (DTM) hosted a public meeting at Reid Park on Saturday March 23rd from 10am-noon to share the results and a draft staff recommendation (to either maintain the voter-approved route or shift the alignment to a different route) for the public to review. The draft staff recommendation at this stage will be just that - a draft.

Collin Chesston, project manager for the Bike Boulevard, will meet with Palo Verde neighbors on Monday, March 25 from 5:30-6:30 p.m. over Zoom to give us an overview of the project and gather feedback from our neighbors. To see the proposed route and get the virtual meeting link, RSVP below.

Pickleball Interest Survey

The PVNA Board is responding to requests from residents to investigate the possibility of Pickleball Courts in our neighborhood. We are looking at a variety of potential options, including the conversion of existing tennis courts at Catalina High School. First we would like to understand the level of interest in Pickleball. Please answer the brief survey below.

Support Our Neighbor: Recovery GoFundMe

You may have seen the news that an individual was shot near Pima and Dodge on February 21. We learned that it was a Palo Verde resident who is thankfully alive and on her way to recovery. We understand no arrests have yet been made. Call 911 or 88-CRIME if you have any information.

From the GoFundMe:

"On Wednesday 2/21, while out on an afternoon run near her home in Tucson, my close friend Christy was shot. She is recovering as well as can be, thanks to the help of some wonderful Samaritans at the scene, the fantastic medical staff at Banner University Medical Center, her loving family and friends, as well as some divine intervention and/or luck. She was shot in the chest and thankfully the bullet missed her vital organs. However, the injury appears to have damaged the nerves in her right arm and chest and will impact her ability to work as a dental hygienist for quite a while. She was released from the hospital on February 28 and faces a difficult rehabilitation. Funds will go a long way to helping with medical bills and living expenses while Christy is out of work. Please keep her and her family in your thoughts and prayers and consider donating. Any help is greatly appreciated."

Did You Know...?

Ways to Save Water When Doing Dishes

Customers often ask why Tucson Water doesn’t provide a rebate for dishwashers. Most dishwashers use the least water of any appliance in the home, and at least three times less water than handwashing. Modern dishwashers are remarkably efficient, using less than 4 gallons per load.

The best ways to save water and energy when doing dishes:

  • If dishes are heavily caked, opt to soak them instead of rinsing before loading
  • Run the dishwasher with a full load
  • Choose the “eco” setting which senses how much water the load needs
  • Read your dishwasher manual to understand the best way to load it and to learn about energy-saving features
  • Delay the start time of your dishwasher to off-peak utility hours
  • Run an empty dishwasher with a cup of vinegar or baking soda to clean away hard water mineral deposits
  • When you purchase a new dishwasher, look for Energy Star-rated appliances, which use 25% less energy than the mandated minimum

When washing by hand, opt for graywater-safe / biocompatible soaps and place a tub in the sink to collect the water to use for watering your outdoor plants.
