Crack Sealing on Speedway Blvd. This Week

On Sunday, April 21, 2024, crews from the City of Tucson Department of Transportation Streets and Traffic Maintenance Division are scheduled to begin a crack seal project on Speedway Boulevard from Country Club Road to Tucson Boulevard, including the intersections. Crews will work at night from 10 p.m. to 6 a.m., Sunday night through Friday morning. This maintenance project is scheduled to be completed by Friday, May 3.

Crews are scheduled to begin the work in the westbound travel lanes on Speedway Boulevard from Country Club Road west to Tucson Boulevard. Once the westbound travel lanes have been crack sealed, crews will work in the eastbound travel lanes.

During the work only one travel lane will be open to motorists. While crews are working in the intersections, turn lane restrictions will also be in place. Law enforcement officers will be on site to assist with directing travel around the work zone. Message boards will be in place for advance notification of this work to the traveling public.

Did You Know?...

Beware the Lovely Foxtail!!

There are weeds all over our neighborhood, some prettier than others. One of the prettiest - foxtail - is also one of the most likely to injure our faithful friend, the dog. Foxtails are a graceful grass whose sharp seeds can burrow deep into our unsuspecting pals' tender parts and even cause the need for surgery.

Now is the time to pull foxtail, before its seeds dry and turn into razor-sharp weapons that bore into dog noses, eyes and even genitals, causing discomfort, infection and in some cases, death.

If your dog has been exposed to foxtails, and is sneezing, scratching, obsessively pawing or licking part of its body, you may want to take them to the vet to be checked for a possible foxtail injury.

Prevention is always the best defense. Pull the foxtails in your yard and along the street to help keep our neighborhood dogs safe and prevent more foxtails in the future!
