Weeding Weekends in Palo Verde Neighborhood!

Plants - wanted and unwanted - are popping up all over Palo Verde Neighborhood. While we support ‘feeding the bees,’ we also want to encourage you to keep your property and surrounding areas of responsibility tidy and free of invasive weeds.

Submit your weeding before & after photos now through end of May to win prizes!

Assorted prizes, such as gift cards and discounts to local businesses, will be distributed on a rolling basis now through end of May. All valid submissions will be entered to win one of ten $25 gift cards. We’d like to share your photos (anonymously) on PVNA channels to help inspire others to get out and weed.

Know your areas of responsibility for weeding:

  • Your property
  • The right-of-way & curbs
  • Half of any alleys behind your home

Win additional prizes for special categories:

  • Best alley cleanup
  • Best right-of-way cleanup
  • Best yard cleanup for each quadrant: Southwest, Northwest, Northeast, Southeast

We encourage you to avoid the use of toxic herbicides. See our tips for weed control on the PVNA blog.

Enter to win by emailing your name, address, and before & after photos to info@paloverdeneighborhood.org. You may include a brief quote or yard tips, if you’d like. (Your address will not be published; this will only be used to validate entries)

If physically or financially unable to do the manual labor yourself, please contact us and we can try to pair you with volunteers who can help. Know a neighbor in need who may be offline? Ask them if they’d like us to organize volunteers on their behalf.

Special Notice: E-News Schedule

Starting in June, the PVNA e-news will be sent approximately every other week. We understand that some of our readers' favorite feature is our inclusion of the trash and recycling schedule.

With the upcoming change, you can expect to receive our emails every Sunday ahead of recycling pickup day. We'll send occasional notices on an as-needed basis as well.

Update on Ward 6 Council member replacement

The Mayor and Council are using the following process to fill the vacant Ward 6 seat:

The eleven applicants presented to the Mayor and Council at a meeting held on Tuesday, April 23, organized by the League of Women Voters of Greater Tucson. Each elected official emailed the City Clerk their top 5 choices, in ranked order by 5:30 PM, Monday, April 29. Managers in the City Clerk's office will compiled the emails into a spreadsheet and determined the top 4 applicants. The top 4 applicants were announced on Tuesday, April 30. They are Pamela Powers, Ted Prezelski, Vince Rabago and Karin Uhlich.

Mayor Regina Romero and the five remaining councilmembers will pick a replacement at a special meeting at 5:30 on Monday, May 6, at City Hall, 255 W. Alameda St. During that meeting, the top 4 applicants will make a presentation to the Mayor and Council.

Mayor and Council may discuss the presentations and decide on who to appoint to the Ward 6 seat on May 6. If they cannot decide on May 6, they will have time at the Regular Meeting of May 7 to take up the issue again.

The April 26 meeting was recorded and can be viewed on Facebook Video at https://www.facebook.com/watch/live/?ref=watch_permalink&v=1010772933949457.

Palo Verde Neighborhood Events

House Address Project starts in May!!!!!!!

In February, we surveyed the PVN to see if there was interest in having the neighborhood association organize an effort to paint house address numbers on both the curbs and outside the back walls (alley side) of individual residences. We received a positive response. Based on consultation with the City of Tucson, PVNA must obtain the resident’s consent to paint the house address numbers on the curb and back wall.

Our new Streets, Parks and Beautification Chair, Jayla R., is ready to start this project. Neighborhood residents will be invited to participate in prescheduled workdays. Workdays and areas will be communicated using the weekly e-news, Facebook, and Instagram, so affected area residents will have prior notification.

House numbers on the curbs will be located within 3 feet of your driveway. We will determine whether numbers will be placed to the left or right of the driveway depending on your situation. If you want to request the your house address on the curb and/or back alley, please complete the following form before May 15th . This form will serve as your written consent to proceed with the House Address Project.

Why would you want this? Clearly visible address numbers are a significant

aid to safety that help first responders (i.e. police and fire/medical services)

quickly find the location of reported problems. House numbers can enable

visitors and food/package delivery to find you more easily. These numbers are also required for neighbors taking part in Neighborhood Watch. Consider joining or starting a Neighborhood Watch with your immediate neighbors.

Please encourage your neighbors to sign up for house numbers!!!!

Community News & Events

City of Tucson announces the People, Communities and Homes Investment Plan Survey

The People, Communities, and Homes Investment Plan (P-CHIP) creates a framework for investing in communities experiencing vulnerability in Tucson. P-CHIP identifies key priorities eligible for support from Tucson's federal and local funding sources, administered by the City of Tucson Housing and Community Development Department. The funding goes towards homeless services, housing stability, neighborhood enhancements, and more.

We're updating P-CHIP and need your input!

In this survey you'll identify and prioritize Tucson's biggest challenges when it comes to creating equitable access to opportunity and let us know what we should fund to address those challenges.
