THANK YOU TO EXTRA SPACE!
A huge THANK YOU to ExtraSpace Storage at 2538 N. Country Club (across from the new YOTO complex north of Grant) for donating 6 months of storage in a 5' x 10' storage unit to PVNA!!! Alyssa, the manager, was super helpful in connecting us to this great storage space. Now we can keep all the PVNA items from the Annual Meeting, Art in the Garden, 4th of July Parade, etc. in one climate-controlled space!
Thanks to PVNA Events Chair Tom B. and Vice President Nancy S. for the idea to approach ExtraSpace and for working closely with Alyssa!

Assorted prizes, such as gift cards and discounts to local businesses, will be distributed on a rolling basis now through end of May. All valid submissions will be entered to win one of ten $25 gift cards. We’d like to share your photos (anonymously) on PVNA channels to help inspire others to get out and weed.

- Half of any alleys behind your home
Win additional prizes for special categories:
- Best alley cleanup
- Best right-of-way cleanup
- Best yard cleanup for each quadrant: Southwest, Northwest, Northeast, Southeast
We encourage you to avoid the use of toxic herbicides. See our tips for weed control on the PVNA blog.
Enter to win by emailing your name, address, and before & after photos to info@paloverdeneighborhood.org. You may include a brief quote or yard tips, if you’d like. (Your address will not be published; this will only be used to validate entries)
If physically or financially unable to do the manual labor yourself, please contact us and we can try to pair you with volunteers who can help. Know a neighbor in need who may be offline? Ask them if they’d like us to organize volunteers on their behalf.

House Address Project starts in May:
Sign up to have your curb painted!
|
Our new Streets, Parks and Beautification Chair, Jayla R., is ready to start the House Address project. Neighborhood residents will be invited to participate in prescheduled workdays. The first workdays will be early in the day on the mornings of Saturday, May 25 and Saturday, June 8 to beat the heat. We will be painting in the Northeast and Southeast quadrants first, and will see how many are completed on May 25, then plan for June 8. We will be communicating with homeowners who have signed up for numbers painting to let them know about timing.
House numbers on the curbs will be located within 3 feet of your driveway. We will determine whether numbers will be placed to the left or right of the driveway depending on your situation. If you want to request the your house address on the curb and/or back alley, please complete the form below before Thursday, May 23rd (time extended). This form will serve as your written consent to proceed with the House Address Project.
Why would you want fresh house numbers? Clearly visible address numbers are a significant aid to safety that help first responders (i.e. police and fire/medical services) quickly find the location of reported problems. House numbers can enable visitors and food/package delivery to find you more easily. These numbers are also required for neighbors taking part in Neighborhood Watch. Consider joining or starting a Neighborhood Watch with your immediate neighbors.
Please encourage your neighbors to sign up for house numbers!!!!

Build a more resilient neighborhood with BaRN
|
Connected neighbors make a stronger, safer, and happier neighborhood. With chemical spills, wildfires, power outages, and extreme weather events across the country, we want to make sure that our homes are well-prepared, and that our neighbors are, too.
You are invited to a 1-hr informational Zoom session on building a more resilient community by making connections between neighbors and preparing for climate-related emergencies. These sessions are held twice monthly via Zoom. The next sessions will be:
Tuesday, June 4, 2024, 4:00-5:00 pm
Thursday, June 6, 2024, 7:00-8:00 pm
You may attend either one.
Register here
At the orientation, you will learn how to become a Block Connector – a volunteer who reaches out to neighbors in their own block of households – whether the block is your own street, your apartment complex, or your section of a mobile home park. The job is simple and straightforward, and takes only a few hours to accomplish on your own schedule.
Who we are
Building a Resilient Neighborhood (BaRN) is a coalition of Tucson residents from diverse neighborhoods. Inspired by Physicians for Social Responsibility, we came together to spread the word among neighbors on extreme weather and ways that we can build stronger, more resilient neighborhoods.

We've had some recent thefts in the neighborhood and a potential assault as reported in our private Facebook Group. Ronni Margolis Kotwica, Chair of the Alvernon Grant Initiative (AGI), a monthly meeting with the Tucson Police, shared some suggestions about how we all can make it more difficult for thieves to prey on our neighborhood.
1. Check all doors and windows, especially on the backside of your home, to ensure they are properly secured.
2. Always lock your vehicle. Do not leave your wallet or purse (or anything of value) in your vehicle where it is easily seen.
3. If you have a garage, keep the door closed and lock any door that leads into your home. If you park your vehicle on the driveway, remove valuables, including garage door openers. Thieves have been known to break into vehicles to use the garage door opener as a means of gaining access to the home.
4. Don't place your purse, wallet or keys in a conspicuous location. Keep your keys separate from your purse or wallet to minimize your losses. We have seen home invasions where someone enters (normally through an unlocked door) and only steals a purse. If your keys are stolen, have your home's locks re-keyed as soon as possible. Several locksmiths offer 24 hour service.
5. Photocopy the contents of your wallet, both front and back, and keep the information in a secure location. Include information you will need to cancel credit and debit cards. Keep cellphones separate from your purse or wallet. Thieves target these items and cash first, often stashing purses nearby in a neighbor's weeds or buried under a shallow pile of dirt, so they can return later. Several neighbors have been able to recover stolen items, such as purses, by looking in neighbors yards or checking alleys the day after their items have been stolen.
6. If you see a suspicious vehicle in your neighborhood, you can do a quick search of the license plate to see if the vehicle, or plate, has been reported as stolen. Use the Arizona Attorney General's website at http://theftaz.azag.gov/. The information is updated twice a day. If a vehicle comes back as stolen, call 911.
The monthly AGI meeting is held every second Tuesday of the month at 6:00 - 7:00 PM at Emmanuel Baptist Church at 1825 North Alvernon. If you are interested in finding out what is going on in our neighborhood and/or reporting something please attend.
