House Address Project Update
|
Our new Streets, Parks and Beautification Chair, Jayla R., has started the House Address project to paint house numbers on neighbors' curbs and back entries.
Additional curb numbers were painted on mornings of Friday, June 7 and Saturday, June 8 to beat the heat. Numbers in alley entrances will be added at a later date. The project will be paused during the hottest part of summer.

Special thanks to the volunteers that made this happen and Ward 6 for safety supplies.
We still have some houses to finish up for this session next weekend. We will be back in November for more HAPP so you can sign up then.

Help our neighbors after house fire on Bellevue
|
A GoFundMe account has been set up to benefit our neighbors Dora, Lorena and Alena, and their dog Daisy, who lost all their possessions in a house fire on May 29. They were living on the 3100 block of Bellevue Street in Palo Verde.
When they realized their neighbor's house was up in flames. Lorena ran inside to grab the phone to call 911. Unfortunately, the fire made its way into their house, collapsing the roof and destroying everything they owned. The family and their dog were able to evacuate but the mother and daughter were injured and nothing was recovered from the fire.
Anything donated is greatly appreciated. From a simple share to a dollar, everything will be appreciated and used to buy clothes, furniture, shoes, and most importantly, help towards a new home.

Join the Ward 6 office to farewell to welcome Karen Uhlich as our new Council member, and bid farewell to Ann Charles, long-time Chief of Staff. Ann wants to take more time to enjoy her precious family and no doubt find new ways to keep helping Tucson. Ann served with former Councilmember Kozachik from day one and leaves a legacy of impactful efforts. As Ann transitions from the team in June, Diana Amado joins to serve as Chief or Staff and Stacy Balstad also joins the Ward 6 team. Stacy most recently served in the Pima County Attorney’s office. Stacy, along with fabulous Aides Nadia Ispiani and Dora Maldonado and devoted volunteer Mark Crum, will ensure that the outstanding reputation of the Ward 6 office and our services are carried forward and sustained.
Report Stinknet to help control it in Pima County
|
Buffelgrass has been the most infamous, ecosystem-threatening invasive plant in Southern Arizona for many years now. Unfortunately, it now has some serious competition in the form of a little yellow flower called stinknet. This pungent annual is a triple threat: it outcompetes native plants, causes severe allergies, and is highly flammable.
With the heavy winter rains this year, stinknet is having a big spring. At Casa Grande National Ruins National Monument, 70 miles northwest of Tucson, the stinknet infestation became so severe that the picnic area was closed to visitors for over a month, due to health and safety concerns.
While Maricopa and Pinal Counties have enormous swaths of desert taken over by stinknet, so far Pima County has been able to stave off such takeovers. Tucson Audubon, Pima County, Saguaro National Park, the Arizona-Sonora Desert Museum, as well as the Pima Extension Invasives Program have gone far and wide to encourage people to report stinknet sightings, and because of this, dozens of stinknet populations have been stopped before they had a chance to spread.
Recognizing and reporting stinknet is a huge part of keeping our desert and our neighborhoods safe from this nasty, flammable invader. Report stinknet and help Pima County stay free of this newest invasive threat.
Tips for identifying stinknet:
- Round yellow flowers without petals
- Smells like turpentine
- Plants are up to two feet tall
- Can cause severe allergic reactions
- Very flammable; smoke is acrid

If you see stinknet, report it using the button below to help officials track the spread. It's important to pull it and discard it before it flowers.
