Camilla Boulevard Traffic Calming Project

Starting about two years ago, after being awarded a Green Stormwater Infrastructure Grant, the PVNA Traffic Circle team worked with Ward 6 and Tucson Clean & Beautiful to design stormwater and traffic calming mitigation on Camilla Blvd between Speedway and Pima Roads. The team also considered how the chicanes may be complemented by other traffic mitigation features like speed bumps and stop signs to maximize the area for these traffic slowing features.
Neighborhood feedback was obtained and the plan design was approved and completed. The $30,000 project will cover the cost of two chicanes. This week work was started on this project and workers have finished the hardscape work. The rock work and planting will be completed by the landscapers and should be done by end of June.
Workers are also beginning construction on one speed hump on Camilla between Fairmount Street and Willard Street, and two speed humps on Fairmount between Country Club and Camilla Blvd. These were requested by local residents working with the City of Tucson to mitigate the speeding cars.

See how to apply for a speed hump to help slow down traffic on your street at: https://www.paloverdeneighborhood.org/blog/how-to-apply-for-a-new-speed-bump-in-palo-verde-neighborhood-in-tucson-az.

Neighbors share concerns about NW Quad streets

Neighbors in the area around Sparkman and Rita in the Northwest quadrant have been struggling with compromised street access due to construction on Grant Road. They came to the 6/20 Neighborhood and Board meeting to report how dead-end and one way streets compound the problem and to discuss potential solutions. Since our Ward 6 Council member and council aide (Karin and Dora) and Neighborhood Preservation coordinator Vicki were at the meeting, a lively and productive conversation resulted.

The Board thanks our neighbors for bringing this to our attention as most of us were not aware of the ongoing issues. We know that construction on Grant will be part of our lives for years to come during the Grant Road expansion project so we want to deal with issues promptly. Questions about the Grant Rd construction can be directed to Bob.Roggenthen@tucsonaz.gov.

Please send email to info@paloverdeneighborhood.org or come to an upcoming meeting to discuss issues. (It's great to get an email first so we can investigate the problem before we meet.) We take your concerns seriously!

Stay tuned for an upcoming meeting for residents, stakeholders, and the city to discuss possible solutions.

Join the Ward 6 office to welcome Karen Uhlich as our new Council member. We will also bid farewell to Ann Charles, long-time Chief of Staff. Ann wants to take more time to enjoy her precious family and will no doubt find new ways to keep helping Tucson. Ann served with former Council member Kozachik from Day One and leaves a legacy of impactful efforts.

As Ann transitions from the team in June, Diana Amado joins to serve as Chief or Staff and Stacy Balstad also joins the Ward 6 team. Stacy most recently served in the Pima County Attorney’s office. Stacy, along with fabulous Aides Nadia Ispiani and Dora Maldonado and devoted volunteer Mark Crum, will ensure that the outstanding reputation of the Ward 6 office and our services are carried forward and sustained.
