A Fabulous Fourth in Palo Verde!

Neighborhood Dachshunds Max & Mia

Over 300 Palo Verde neighbors (and guests from all over Tucson) attended the 61st Annual Palo Verde Fourth of July celebration and parade in Catalina High School Park. The parade traversed part of Seneca Street headed south on Palo Verde Boulevard, then walked through the high school grounds to return to the Park.

Prizes were awarded to parade participants for the best bike, best dog, best individual, best float and best in show.

Many thanks to all our fabulous volunteers, especially PVNA Event Chair Tom B. and members of the July Fourth planning committee, who worked hard to make this an exceptional event for PVNA. It was extra special to see all the children who enjoyed participating in activities provided by CoT's Ready Set Rec! and brought lots of power to smashing the piñata. See great photos of the parade and the celebration by clicking the button below.

We couldn't do it without the support of our fabulous sponsors, who included the Loft Cinema, Let All Thrive Coaching & Counseling, The Shelter Cocktail Lounge, and Midtown Mercantile Merchants!

Camilla Boulevard Traffic Calming Project

The PVNA Traffic Circle team, after being awarded a Green Stormwater Infrastructure Grant, worked with Ward 6 and Tucson Clean & Beautiful to design stormwater and traffic calming mitigation on Camilla Blvd between Speedway and Pima Roads. The $30,000 project covered the cost of two chicanes on Camilla, which have been completed and landscaped. Workers have also completed one speed hump on Camilla between Fairmount Street and Willard Street, and two speed humps on Fairmount between Country Club and Camilla Blvd. These were requested by local residents working with the City of Tucson to mitigate the speeding cars.
To see a short video from KOLD TV-13 about the completed project, click on this link: Neighborhood takes back its streets, including some great footage of the Fourth of July parade!
See how to apply for a speed hump to help slow down traffic on your street at: https://www.paloverdeneighborhood.org/blog/how-to-apply-for-a-new-speed-bump-in-palo-verde-neighborhood-in-tucson-az.

Take the PVNA 2024 Survey - tell us what's important to you!

The water retention basin that will be built through the RTA on the southeast corner of Grant and Dodge will house this brilliantly red canine, who will hover over our stretch of Grant Road. A few months ago, residents in neighborhoods near Grant and Alvernon had the opportunity through a survey to suggest names for this exuberant red coyote. In a public construction project like RTA, 1% of the eligible county capital improvement funds must be set aside for public artworks.

Joe O’Connell, president, founder, and Artistic director of Creative Machines, designed and fabricated the red coyote. Joe was excited to go through the 125 suggestions for names made by residents of eight neighborhoods located near the Grant/Alvernon area. Joe said it was a tough decision, but he and his team at Creative Machines has narrowed the choices down to their top five favorites. Please help decide what the name of the red coyote will be! Deadline to participate July 30.
