PVNA Meeting with Tucson Dept of Transportation & Mobility

On Monday, September 25 at 6 p.m. we have scheduled a Zoom meeting to discuss the planned route for a bicycle boulevard through the Palo Verde Neighborhood.

The City of Tucson Department of Transportation & Mobility is about to kick off a route alternatives analysis for the Camino Miramonte - Palo Verde Bicycle Boulevard. They have hired a national expert on bicycle and pedestrian planning and design (https://tooledesign.com/) to conduct the analysis, and are soliciting neighborhood feedback about which routes they should analyze.

At this meeting project manager Collin Chesston will provide an overview of the project, update us on the alternatives analysis, and get neighborhood input on the routes that you think the consultant should look at more closely. Click the RSVP link below for additional information and to receive the Zoom link for this meeting.

Proposed TEP Electrical poles in Midtown

Tucson Electric Power (TEP) is hosting an open house on Thursday, September 21 from 6-8 p.m. at the Doubletree Hotel—Reid Park

(445 S. Alvernon Way) to discuss the current format of their plan for "midtown transmission line upgrades". The plan will add large electrical poles to a yet-to-be-determined Midtown area. The proposed plan with maps and online comment form can be seen at www.tep.com/midtown-reliability-project. KOLD also ran a story on the project which can be viewed at https://www.kold.com/2023/09/01/tep-seeks-input-midtown-reliability-project/.

There is a real possibility that these large electrical poles will run through parts of the Palo Verde neighborhood, so please take a look at the provided information and add your comments!

Development Proposed at 3726 East Pima

PVNA Board members and neighbors attended a meeting on 9/5/23 with Kimley Horn developers to discuss proposed development of a .91 acre parcel on Pima near Dodge.

The proposal calls for 19 apartment units (three studio, four 1-bedroom and twelve 2-bedroom apartments) and 30 parking spaces at the site. There will be open space and a playground. Residents expressed concerns about privacy, existing fences, drainage and potential flooding at that site. Responses to all questions were a variation on the theme of "we will talk to the owners". No additional meetings are planned with the neighborhood. The development process is anticipated to take about a year, and construction will take up to 18 months.

The PVNA Board will continue to follow up with neighborhood concerns - please send your feedback to info@paloverdeneighborhood.org.

Benches stolen from Himmel Library

On or about August 25, thieves stole two mosaic commemorative benches installed by Sam Hughes Neighborhood Association (SHNA) in front of Himmel Park Library. See photos of the two stolen benches.

SHNA has secured the remaining three benches and has plans to improve security. SHNA is not interested in the perpetrators, but wants to see these irreplaceable benches back at Himmel Park Library. The benches represent a tremendous amount of work and love from the project originators, the artists, and the many donors who supported the Himmel Park Beautification Project.

If you have any leads, please contact Tucson Police or share tips with the Ward 6 Office: 520-791-4601.
