Second annual HalloVerde a HOWLING success!!

On Halloween night, the Palo Verde neighborhood was the place to see and be seen! Over 80 houses handed out candy to hundreds of children and families. Several neighbors estimated over 200 kids trick or treated at their houses! Neighbors who did not anticipate the rush may have run out of treats early in the evening.

Many thanks to the dedicated volunteers who helped make October 31 a night to remember. Tom Bolin and Jenny Dizon, Events co-chairs, Nancy and Jayla Stromp, Val Santillan, Arlene Danser, Linda Stewart. And many thanks to all the households - whether you were on the "map" or not - who pitched in to make it a memorable night!

PVNA SEASON OF GIVING

PVNA has historically partnered with Catalina High School (CHS) and Youth On Their Own (YOTO) to help our residents as well as others in Tucson during the holidays. This season, we are taking a different approach to holiday donations after consulting with CHS and YOTO as to how we can be most helpful. We have identified four opportunities for the PVNA Season of Giving starting now through mid-December.

1 - YOTO Mini Mall drive YOTO recommends using their website for cash donations or purchasing from their Mini Mall Amazon list (see YOTO flyer for QR code). If you want to personally shop for YOTO, please see the locations below to drop off your donations. When shopping, don't forget that the recipients may not have access to a full kitchen.

2 - CHS Thanksgiving CHS has a program in place to provide Thanksgiving food for families. You can help with gift cards or shopping to provide specific items. See the flyer below for details.

Please note, NO TURKEYS or other perishable items! CHS has no way of handling fresh or frozen food. Instead they request that you donate a $25 gift card for Frys or Walmart. You can drop off gift cards at CHS as indicated in the flyer, OR at the PVN drop off locations below.

3 - CHS December Holidays For the December holidays, CHS helps families by supplying gift cards so that they can purchase gifts or food for the Holidays. CHS would like our help purchasing $25 gift cards from either Target or Walmart. Drop gift cards off at the locations below.

4 - PVNA Board does the shopping for you! The PVNA Board is happy to shop for you. Please send us a check made out to Palo Verde NA and indicate which of the three options above you wish to donate to: YOTO Mini Mall, CHS Thanksgiving or CHS December Holidays.

For example: We have priced out the Thanksgiving CHS items, so if you send us a check for $50, we can purchase a gift card for a turkey, the requested dry goods, and a shopping bag.

If you would like to send us a check for another amount, we will accumulate donations and do a purchase for YOTO, a CHS Thanksgiving box or a CHS Holiday Gift Card. You can bring the checks to any of the drop off locations below or mail it to:

Palo Verde Neighborhood Association

1718 E. Speedway Blvd. #247

Tucson, AZ 85719

Please specify the purpose for your donation on each check. If we receive your check after the Thanksgiving deadline of November 21st, it will automatically be used for the CHS December Holiday gift card.

Drop Off Locations for gift cards or dry goods:

Nancy at 3201 E. Willard Street

Lisa at 3220 E. Elida Street

Northwest Quad

Lex at 3403 E. Pima Street

Paula at 3215 E. Waverly Street

Linda at 3322 E. Linden Street

House Address Painting Project (HAPP): Phase 2 starts November 16

Sign up to have your house number painted on your curb!

Our Streets, Parks and Beautification Chair, Jayla S., is ready to start the

House Address Painting Project, fondly known as HAPP. Volunteers will prep and paint house numbers on neighbors' curbs. The next workday will be early on Saturday, November 16th. We had to extend this project from Spring due to the heat. Homeowners who signed up for numbers painting will receive email with details about workday plans. If you signed up at the Annual Meeting or NW Pot Luck, you do not need to sign up again.

House numbers on the curbs will be located within 3 feet of your driveway.

We will determine whether numbers will be placed to the left or right of the

driveway depending on your situation. If you want to request your house

address on the curb, please complete the form below before Tuesday,

November 12th. This form serves as your written consent to proceed with painting your house number on your curb.

Clearly visible house address numbers are a significant aid to safety that help first responders (i.e. police and fire/medical services) quickly find the location of reported problems. House numbers can enable visitors and food/package delivery folks to find you more easily. These numbers are also required for neighbors taking part in Neighborhood Watch.

**Consider joining/starting a Neighborhood Watch with your neighbors!**

Please note that if you live on Pima Street and signed up in the spring, you will be on the November list. We had to delay painting your house numbers due to traffic. In addition, if you requested house numbers painted in your alley way in the Spring, we are not able to paint alley way numbers due to the uniqueness of each location and our limited time and volunteers.

Please encourage your neighbors to sign up for house numbers!!!!

Major Facelift at the Rancho Center

KGUN News 9 reports that The Rancho Center on Speedway east of Country Club in Midtown Tucson is getting a major facelift. Larsen Baker Real Estate, which bought the 80,000-square-foot shopping center in 2022, is leading the project. Construction has already started on a multi-million dollar renovation. The businesses currently at the Rancho Center will remain open and construction is expected to take four to five months.

The project will replace textured walls with smooth stucco and add new railings and landscaping. Pinkberry Frozen Yogurt will open in the coming months, as will a large new restaurant next to Whole Foods. The restaurant will be the next project from the partners who started Locale and Contigo. The empty lot to the west of the existing shopping center will become an HTeaO drive-thru offering iced tea drinks. Behind the drive-thru is open land zoned for another drive-thru business and residential use.
