Happy Summer Everyone!

It's hard to believe we're coming up on the big July 4th holiday! We will carry our PVRW banner along with other clubs in the downtown July 4th Parade (on Sat,July 3rd!). Even if it's not "our Town", it doesn't hurt to let everyone know that PVRW is here! If you're interested in walking along, please contact 1st VP Liz Kennedy.

Thank you for your June Caring for America donations in the envelopes. We raised another $100 dollars to help the HUSD Family Resource Center plus some donated items. Treasurer Lauren Hawkins will be dropping them with HUSD this week.

Christmas in July Jewelry Event this month! Choose from gorgeous necklaces, bracelets, slides and more in gold or silver. Think what great holiday or birthday gifts these will make for family & friends! Treasurer Lauren is working on getting us set up for credit/debit cards but not sure it will happen by our meeting so bring your checkbooks or good old cash!

Executive Committee has accepted the resignation of 3rd VP Romona Ogburn. We thank her for her past service. In accordance with our Bylaws, Executive Committee has appointed Yoli Bounds as our new 3rd Vice President. Thank you to Yoli for stepping up!

We had a great time at WOOFStock. Didn't register any voters but met lots of great folks and handsome doggies! See pix in our Photo Gallery on the website!

I'm also really looking forward to the AzFRW State Meeting June 24-26 here in Prescott! Great programs and more! Sadly, registration has already closed but I hope you were signed up in time. If you missed out, be sure to make your plans for Convention in October early! For our Active members who are attending the Prescott meeting, the club will reimburse your early registration fee!. See you soon,

President Mary

Did you know?

July 6, 1775

A few months after the Thirteen Colonies had broken out in rebellion against their British colonial overseers, the Continental Congress drafted a resolution entitled the Declaration of the Causes and Necessity of Taking Up Arms. This document was an important precursor to the Declaration of Independence issued just over a year later. Oddly, the declaration came one day after the Olive Branch Petition, which restated loyalty to Britain and wished King George III a long reign in a final attempt to prevent war.

In the declaration, the colonists describe several of their grievances, including being taxed without being represented, restrictive legislation and their pleas and demands having been ignored for many years. The colonists still maintained that they were not after independence, just redress of their concerns.

The declaration was written primarily by Thomas Jefferson (who would go on to be the primary author of the Declaration of Independence) and was rewritten and edited by John Dickinson. The colonies did take up arms and Great Britain would cede and acknowledge American independence in 1783.
