WINTER WEATHER & EXTERIOR CARE

Stay Warm & Cozy this Winter Season!

Stay safe and warm, whether you're at home or traveling. If you're heading out, make sure to turn your heat on and keep it running while you're away. With freezing temperatures expected this week, it's important to take these precautions to avoid any issues.

During the freezing weather please DO NOT turn off the heat in your home. Turning off the heat may cause the pipes to freeze resulting in damage to your home and personal property. Please set your heat to 68-72 degrees during the day and turned on to at least 65-72 degrees during the night, to protect your pipes and other parts of the structure.

Residents should open cabinet doors and allow faucets to drip slightly to prevent freezing of pipes when temperatures are consistently at an extreme low (20°F or below). Please also keep a watchful eye on your animals when they are outdoors. Although they have fur, this does not mean they can fully withstand bitter temperatures.

If you have a water leak or frozen pipes, call maintenance immediately so we can come out it before it causes any damage to your home. If you wait and damages do occur that could have been prevented, you could be charged for resident damage.

Exterior Faucet Covers

Our Grounds Crew started on Monday 1 December visiting all of the Prairies Legacy Homes (no attached garage) and all of the Woods homes to install exterior faucet covers to help prevent the pipes from freezing during the winter months. The faucet covers are not necessary for the Contemporary homes (attached garage) in The Prairies. We will continue until all covers have been installed. Once the faucet covers are installed, you will be unable to use the outdoor faucet for the remainder of the season until we come out to remove them. Please do not remove them once installed.

All residents are asked to remove your water hoses from all outside plumbing fixtures if you have not already done so. If the water hose is still attached and we are unable to get it off, we will cut it off. If we have to cut the hose off, we will not be responsible for the replacement hose. Leaving your hose attached to the fixture can cause it to freeze in the winter months and possibly cause damage to your home.

Please leave your pet inside when you are not home and remove any lock of your gate, if applicable, so we have access to install the faucet cover.

WINTER WEATHER INFORMATION - SNOW PLOWING & SHOVELING

The safety of our community is a top priority, and we strive to provide safe and passable road surfaces during winter storm events.

  • We ask that you remove parked vehicles from streets wherever possible by using your garages and driveways or parking lots. Vehicles parked in active snow removal areas may be removed at the owner's expense.
  • This will make it easier for snow removal plows to make it through the streets with little hazards and limited spacing and may help prevent your car from being plowed in.
  • Do not attempt to pass snow removal vehicles, which may be plowing in teams.
  • While snow continues to fall, operations will focus on the primary roads only.
  • The length of time it takes for us to clear the streets will depend on the amount of snow we receive, wind and air temperature.
  • Clearing of sidewalks as soon as practical is the responsibility of the resident.
  • It is inevitable that our plows may toss snow back on to sidewalks and driveways as they clear the roads.
  • When shoveling, you may consider placing the snow on the right side of your driveway (as you face the street) to lessen the amount of shoveling due to plowing deposits.
  • If you have a fire hydrant nearby be sure to shovel around it, saving our Fire Department precious seconds in the event of an emergency.
  • Take breaks when shoveling to avoid exhaustion.
  • Make sure someone knows you are outside working.
  • Allow extra travel time. Maintain a safe following distance and slower speeds.
