Repentance - A Gift from a Loving Father

It is customary to focus on Jesus' death, suffering and resurrection at Easter time. But Easter also causes us to reflect and focus on repentance (the first step) and the cross (the only viable second step) as we decide to "turn from sin" and "turn to God."

The word "repent" (and God's command to perform the act) can seem harsh to many and thus there is a natural resistance to this act of humility and submission. However, when we look at Scriptures, we see that repentance is an incredible gift from God. If not for God's love, our only option from the decisions we make and the lives we live would be to perish. But through the grace of our generous Lord Jesus Christ, we have this precious gift as an option which shows what a LOVING FATHER we have! Therefore, Easter causes us to reflect and think about repentance, the gift of grace from God our Heavenly Father.

It is all about the Heart, Our Hearts:

In the New Testament, the word "repentance" translated is the Greek word μετάοια (metanoia), which is a compound word of the preposition 'meta' (after, with) and the verb 'noeo' (to perceive, to think, the result of perceiving or observing).

Metanoia is therefore primarily an after-thought, different from the former thought; a change of mind accompanied by regret and change of conduct. Or we can say, it is a "CHANGE OF MIND AND HEART."

The Apostle Paul encourages believers in Romans 12:2 (NIV) to...

Do not conform any longer to the pattern of this world,
but be transformed by the renewing of your mind.
Then you will be able to test and approve what God's will is -
his good, pleasing and perfect will.

May this Easter season encourage us to not be conformed to the lifestyle of this world, but to be transformed by renewing our minds in the Word of God that we may know and do the Will of God to His glory and honor and praise!

During this Easter season take time to reflect and meditate on this passage:

Do not love the world or anything in the world.
If anyone loves the world,  the love of the Father  is not in him.
For everything in the world - the cravings of sinful man,
the lust of his eyes  and the boasting of what he has and does -
comes not from the Father but from the world.
The world and its desires pass away,
but the man who does the will of God lives forever.
 I John 2:15-17 (NIV)

PWI Prayer Seminar -
Face To Face with God

On Wednesday, January 16, 2019, Prayer Watch International started a 13-week prayer seminar at Bellevue Heights Church in Sun City, Arizona.  The theme of the prayer seminar was Face To Face With God, an encouragement for God's people to grow in prayer and grace. Pastor Bjørn Pedersen was the Bible Teacher for the seminar. He was assisted by Phyllis Pedersen (wife) and team members Shelley Hedlund (Willmar, Minnesota), Gina Althof (Peoria, Arizona), and a large group of global Intercessors coordinated by Lola Reyna (PWI Global Prayer Coordinator) and Pastor Miriam Perry (Prayer Missionary and PWI Senior Prayer Advisor). AnneMarie Pedersen Schmidt also provided social networking and marketing support for the event. Thanks so much to the entire PWI Team!

PWI is especially grateful to Senior Pastor Tim Andersen, Associate Pastor David Tomb, Visitation Pastor Eddie West, and the Bellevue Heights congregation for inviting PWI to conduct the prayer seminar at their church. It is very much appreciated.

The seminar meetings have been well attended and well received. A considerable amount of individual prayer ministry has taken place following the teaching. Wednesday, April 10, was the final day of the Face To Face With God Prayer Seminar.

May God bring a "bumper crop" of eternally abiding fruit from the prayer seminar!

Prayer Seminar Testimonies

Testimony by Rosie Rivera

"I thank God for blessing us at Bellevue Heights Church by bringing Pastor Bjørn Pedersen to teach us how to come face to face with God through prayer. I have always been drawn to prayer because that is when I experience a peace that cannot be explained. So, on January 16th, I entered the chapel with great expectations and the Lord did not disappoint me.

Through Pastor Pedersen's teaching on prayer, I have a clearer understanding of what being a Prayer Warrior demands. I have been made aware of my shortcomings and encouraged to work on the areas that need improvement, if I want to be a serious and committed intercessor. I know the Holy Spirit will continue to work in me. Praise God!

As I mentioned above, definitely, God did not disappoint me. I was very concerned about my son, Steven, who had recently become his father's caregiver, while at the same time holding a full-time job. The doctors said that with Nestor's congestive heart failure he would not last six months. Nestor's condition worsened rapidly and soon he was put into hospice. Steven was overwhelmed and called to ask for continued prayer. I told him I was going to a prayer conference and I would ask for prayer for him and Nestor.

At the beginning of the first session, Pastor Pedersen encouraged anyone who had a need for prayer to go to the front and a Prayer Warrior would pray for them. As soon as the class ended, I went up for prayer. I shared my concern with Gina and she prayed for peace for my son and for his father. I asked her to pray that God would send someone to Nestor with the plan of salvation. But Gina prayed that God would give Steven words that would soften a hardened heart - that Nestor would receive Jesus as his Lord and Savior before he died.

I KNOW GOD HEARD THAT PRAYER AND ANSWERED IT THAT SAME NIGHT. The peace that was felt in the Hospice room was the presence of the Holy Spirit."

Testimony by Rosie's son, Steven:

"It was Wednesday night. I was sitting in Dad's room at the Hospice house. I pulled up the chair really close to the bed, so that I could be right in his face. I told him that I needed to have a conversation with him. The same conversation that I have been trying to have with him since he moved down here. And now, he would not be able to stop me.

I began the conversation. I told dad it was time to let go of all the hate that he had kept in his heart all his life. I told him that he needed to ask God to forgive him for his sins. And that he needed to do this in the name of Jesus Christ, God's Son and our Savior.

Dad's breathing showed me two things. First, I knew he was listening to me, and that he was agitated by my message.

It was at that moment that Fita and Luis (Nestor's parents) came to my mind and the fact that if Dad did not accept Christ as his Savior, he would never see them again. So I switched tactics. I then made the focus of the conversation about going to be with Fita and all the family. I told Dad that he could be with all of them when he died but that he had to accept Christ as his Savior and he needed to ask God to forgive his sins in the name of Jesus Christ.

His breathing became calmer. I sat with him for a little longer, then kissed him on the forehead and told him I love him. I also told him I would see him tomorrow after work.

I woke up the next morning with such a sense of peace. At work, while running a register, I felt as if someone was standing behind me, but when I turned around, there was no one there. Dad was gone by the time I got to the hospice center. But there was peace in the room and on his face."

Testimony by Ruth Fosen Diehl:

"I want to thank Pastor Bjørn for being an obedient servant. Attending prayer school 20 years ago helped to sky rocket my faith and prayer life. It was after that that I began to implement a regular day of prayer and fasting for years...then I stopped when I was pregnant and nursing...and the days I've fasted since then could probably be counted on 1, or maybe 2 hands. So today I'm thankful for this gift of prayer, the gift of fasting and for you and your prayer school which has reminded me and convicted me about the importance of fasting. May God bless you and strengthen you!"

Shelley Hedlund Joins the PWI Board of Directors

Shelly Hedlund
On Tuesday, April 2, 2019, Shelley Hedlund took her seat on the PWI Board of Directors for the first time.
She was prayerfully chosen to take the seat  vacated by Dr. Fred Townsend from Alexandria, Minnesota.

As you know, the original Vision of Prayer was given in Alexandria, Minnesota on Sunday, April 27, 1986. And Minnesota has been represented on the Board from the beginning right up to the present time. Shelley will thus continue the "Minnesota Connection" on the PWI Board.

Pastor Steve Brown
Shelley has graduated from six PWI prayer schools in different Minnesota cities from 2002-2010. She has also attended several PWI prayer conferences and leadership training seminars in Minnesota and Arizona from 2001 to 2019. Shelley has completed PWI's Teacher Certification Training and is certified to teach PWI prayer curricula, which she has done on several occasions She has served on several teams to Lower Brule, South Dakota - Native American Reservation and prayer mission trips to Norway and the Ukraine. She understands the Vision of Prayer undergirding PWI quite well.

Thank you to Fred and Sarah Townsend

Would You Consider a PWI Easter Ministry gift?

As we are nearing Easter 2019, this might be a good time to prayerfully consider an additional mission gift to PWI. The global ministry of PWI is making a difference for the Kingdom of God in Africa, Asia, Europe and the Americas.

Your prayer, ministry, and financial support will ensure that PWI will be able to fulfill God's Prayer Vision of April 27, 1986. Thank you for your faithful support. May God richly reward your kindness and generosity!

Gratitude and Appreciation

PWI, the Board of Directors, and staff want to express our sincere and heartfelt gratitude to all of you, our prayer and ministry partners throughout the world. Without your prayers, volunteering, and faithful support, it would be very difficult to carry out the Vision of Prayer  God has given to the body of Christ through PWI. God bless you abundantly for your perseverance in intercession, invaluable ministry service, and generous financial support. Please continue to remember PWI throughout 2019. Your devotion and dedication to prayer and the ministry of prayer makes a significant and abiding impact around  the world!

Lord, transform us by renewing our minds in the Word of God that we may know and do the Will of God to Your glory and honor and praise!
