Pablo Delano, a painter-turned-photographer, documents the city of Hartford in flux. His large- format photographs focus on the built environment of this small metropolis. The photographs, spanning eight years, highlight the nuances and contradictions inherent in a city with a layered history, and record what has been lost over time. They are not sociological statements, despite their subject matter; Delano’s love of visual form, design, composition, and color elevate the images to works of art.

Dr. Harry Franqui-Rivera of Bloomfield College, New Jersey, will discuss opportunities for Connecticut-based Latino veterans and their families to bring memorabilia, photographs, and their oral stories to be collected, digitized, and interviews recorded at the Hartford History Center for incorporation into the Connecticut State Library’s digital collection. He will discuss why it is important to preserve this information and offer suggestions of what to bring to the digitization day that will take place at the Hartford History Center Saturday, June 10. This program will be bilingual (English & Spanish).

Is Top Library Volunteer

|
Hartford Public Library President Gregory C. Davis was named Volunteer of the Year by the Connecticut Library Association at its annual meeting on May 5.
The Edith B. Nettleton award is in memory of the woman who directed the Guilford Free Library for 44 years, and then volunteered for another 36 years until her death at 105 in 2014.
Davis joined the HPL board in 2006, serving as president from 2009-11 and returning to that post in 2015. He was cited for his life long commitment to the community, the welfare of its children, and his steady leadership.
