Accounting Clinic with NYS Society of CPAs
In late July, the Pace SBDC hosted an informative, online Accounting Clinic in partnership with the New York State Society of CPAs (NYSSCPA). The event allowed New York State small business owners and entrepreneurs to learn through one-to-one, virtual sessions with seven CPA volunteers. During the clinic, clients were able to ask about various accounting-related topics for their small businesses such as tax filing responsibilities and tax minimization strategies. Find out more about the accounting clinic here and schedule an in-person or Zoom session with a business advisor.

NYSBDC State Director Visit
Last month, the Pace SBDC team welcomed a visit from NYSBDC State Director Sonya Smith at our office where she discussed the NYSBDC's goals and mission, learned more about our business advisors, and met with Andrew Flamm, Pace SBDC Regional Director, and Dean Lawrence Singleton of the Pace University Lubin School of Business. Later, Sonya toured nearby businesses that our team has helped, including Da Claudio Ristorante on Ann Street to greet owner Claudio Marini. Next, Sonya donned gloves at Trinity Boxing Club (see image) for a chat and brief lesson with owner, Martin Snow. The tour concluded with a stop at Fort Street Studio where Sonya met owner, Paul Melo. Read more about Sonya's visit.

In 2015, Paul Melo, owner of Fort Street Studio, sought acquisition advice from Pace SBDC business advisor Greg Callender on the recommendation of a friend who had also utilized our small business services. After a few years' pause, Paul reached out again to speak with Greg who helped him conduct a successful completion of the acquisition in 2022. Greg further assisted Paul when he applied for the NYC Small Business Opportunity Fund, and solved bumps in the road to eventually obtaining a small business loan from NDC. Get the details on how Fort Street Studio overcame obstacles.

Pace SBDC client Nose Best Candles gained traction with eCommerce sales during the pandemic and soon established a brick-and-mortar location in East Williamsburg, Brooklyn. Business advisors Rawle Brown and Joe Peterson assisted the founders, Brittany Furnani and Cristian Abbrancati, a Pace University alum, providing them with business planning guidance, lead-generation marketing help, and advice on accessing capital. The business went on to obtain grant money as well as secure a small loan from Ascendus through the NYC Small Business Opportunity Fund. You can learn more about Nose Best Candles' journey here.
