Pace SBDC Expands to Support Brooklyn Small Businesses
The Pace University Small Business Development Center (SBDC) is excited to announce that our Brooklyn expansion is now live!  The Pace SBDC now includes programming for Brooklyn-based small businesses, including in-depth and confidential one-to-one business advisement (both in-person and virtual) in areas such as access to financing, marketing and sales strategies, government procurement, and business planning. With this new expansion, we are eager to further connections with our public and private sector stakeholders to help generate new jobs and business investment in the Brooklyn communities we serve. We kicked off our expansion launch with Congresswoman Nydia Velazquez, Ranking Member of the House Committee on Small Business at Pace SBDC small business client Guacuco. We were also pleased to be joined by Lawrence Singleton, Dean of Pace University’s Lubin School of Business, NYSBDC State Director Sonya Smith, and a range of other key partners.
In-Person Advisory at Brooklyn Public Library
The Pace SBDC kicked off our in-person one-to-one business advisory sessions at the Brooklyn Public Library’s Business & Career Center, where we host 1:1 sessions every Thursday. To request an appointment small businesses just need to complete a brief counseling request at NYSBDC eCenter Direct and a Pace SBDC staff member will be back in contact to finalize. This strategic expansion is part of our ongoing commitment to support small businesses, both existing and aspiring, by providing confidential and in-depth counseling sessions. And just like our successful partnership with the New York Public Library in midtown, these sessions at the Brooklyn Public Library are offered at no cost.
SBA Disaster Designation
The U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA) issued a disaster declaration covering Kings, Nassau, New York, Queens, Richmond, and Suffolk counties for those impacted by the severe storms and flooding in September. This enables businesses and non-profits to access up to $2 million in SBA Business Physical Disaster Loans for damage to real estate and assets and Economic Injury Disaster Loans for working capital needs caused by the disaster, regardless of whether the business suffered any physical property damage. The interest rate is as low as 4% for small businesses with terms up to 30 years. Click here to read more about the eligibility.
CPA Clinic Recap
In November 2023, the Pace SBDC hosted an informative, online CPA Accounting Clinic in partnership with the New York State Society of CPAs. The event allowed New York State small business owners and entrepreneurs to learn through one-to-one, virtual sessions with seven CPA volunteers, and ask about accounting-related topics for their small businesses such as tax filing responsibilities and tax minimization strategies. Keep an eye out for our upcoming accounting training sessions  on 1/25 and 2/8. schedule an in-person or Zoom session with a Pace SBDC business advisor to discuss accounting best practices for your small business.
Intelligent Pest Control
In 2016, Annmarie Pristera launched Intelligent Pest Control. Pace SBDC Business Advisor Rawle Brown guided the client by helping with business formation, facilitating WBE certification, and developing a Capability Statement to support procurement opportunities. The SBDC connected Annmarie with the Port Authority of New York, New Jersey (PANYNJ), leading to a sub-contract with TUCS Janitorial Services for pest control in PANYNJ buildings in Manhattan's financial district and helping create several other jobs.
