On May 18th, the Pace SBDC hosted a Small Business Lending Panel & Networking Session attended by nearly 200 business owners and banking professionals. The energy was palpable as the community hailed the return of this important live, half-day financing extravaganza which featured two panel discussions with ten participating lenders: Ascendus, Brooklyn Cooperative Federal Credit Union, City National Bank, Flushing Bank, Key Bank, Lendistry, NDC, Pursuit, Spring Bank, and TruFund. Andrew Flamm, Regional Director of the Pace SBDC, kicked off the event with an overview of key lending criteria as well as NYSBDC free services, and then introduced Beth Goldberg, District Director of the Small Business Administration's (SBA) NY District Office to moderate the panels. How does our advisor team skillfully help small businesses, you might ask? Trainings are key. This May, we traveled to Syracuse, NY for the NYSBDC staff training conference to attend a variety of valuable development sessions designed to make us better and more helpful than before. We learned about Fuzehub grants, and the ProfitCents and Data Axle databases, toured Quickbooks, heard from regional executives, and took field trips to meet local small businesses such as the diverse eateries found downtown at Salt City Market. Best of all, after four long years away, we finally, joyously met other NYSBDC business advisors in person. Read more about the conference here and schedule an in-person or Zoom session with an advisor.

After an introduction from Pace SBDC certified business advisor Susan Gluck, Lubin School of Business Professor Mary Long chose to have her Advanced Marketing Management students focus on small business owner (and Pace SBDC client) Sati Sharma's Bricklane Curry restaurant for a course project. The students were asked to help Sati further explore his new endeavor in the cloud kitchen space. Students challenged themselves to accomplish primary and secondary research, interviewing and surveying target markets, and locating recent data about delivery app trends. Their efforts produced strategic suggestions for Brick Lane which is now featuring a new menu item, the Kati roll, based on the students' pricing guidance and it's paying off! Read more about Brick Lane in our client features.
