Last month, the Pacekids community gathered to celebrate and uplift children with diverse needs through Keeping Pace 2025!

Conrad and three other Calgary community leaders flowed through their dance routines while helping Pacekids raise...

over $100,000!

“It is so touching. I love seeing the community come together and want to support such an awesome cause – such an important cause.”

– Deema, Keeping Pace guest

“As mothers, our hearts are bursting to see any child get the opportunity they get with Pacekids – it’s wonderful. We can’t say enough about Pacekids.”

Feel the Impact

Events attendees and donors help support over 700 children like…

Aria!

Aria loves exploring and connecting with others. In fact, she often drags her introverted parents to crowded places just to people watch or interact with anyone willing to give her the time.

“Aria is a people person,” laughs Mary, Aria’s mom. “She loves crowded places – she loves the mall, the grocery store – as soon as she sees so many people she gets so excited, and she doesn’t care about mom anymore.”

Earlier in life, Aria had a hard time doing what she loves. She was born with a rare condition that caused a global developmental delay, including mobility and speech limitations.

It was always difficult, Mary told us, for Aria to make friends in new places when she couldn’t move independently or communicate effectively.

Mary found Pacekids back in 2023 and enrolled Aria in both our in-home and school-based programs. Aria was empowered to build the strength and skill to match her personality.

Now, Aria will be graduating Kindergarten this June with all new confidence, and we couldn’t be prouder of her.

“I would definitely recommend Pacekids to anyone and everyone,” said Mary. “Our experience was amazing from beginning to end.”

Check for more Pacekids emails to learn about Aria’s new skills and how your support writes this story for more children like her!

Staff Spotlight

Aida Damocles

Classroom Therapeutic Aide

Today we are celebrating Aida! She has been a Classroom Therapeutic Aide with Pacekids since 2019 and was instrumental in helping Aria (seen above) learn to stand and walk independently. Aida is a mother to three teachers and enjoys Chinese food, traveling with family, and gardening.

When in your life did you know you wanted to work with children?

"Way back when I was in Grade 4."

Did anything or anyone specifically motivate you to work with children with diverse needs?

"I worked with someone who had a bit of difficulty understanding his lessons and I was assigned to that student. I found myself being very engaged and involve with his work."

What is your favorite thing about working with children?

"I enjoy working at centers in a play based setting. This makes it easier to get children engaged. Also during play, I enjoy watching them have fun and enjoying every day. It is so rewarding because I know that I am creating a positive impact in their lives."

Have you learned anything about yourself, or life in general, because of your job?

"I have learned patience, caring, loving, and passion. I believe without such characteristics it would not be possible to work with these precious children."

If everyone in Calgary were listening to you all at once, what is one thing you would like them to know about children with diverse needs?

"It is important to have individualized support and inclusive environments for all children with diverse needs. Focusing on their needs ensures that everyone will have the opportunity to thrive and accomplish a bright future. We can never underestimate an individual's capability no matter what."
