As of 11am HST, Pacific Historic Parks is proud to share that Pearl Harbor National Memorial - home of the USS Arizona Memorial - remains open to visitors during the federal government shutdown. Harrison's Virtual Reality Launch, October 17th from 7 - 9am
On October 17, 2025, starting at 7am, Pacific Historic Parks will unveil a new virtual reality (VR) experience at the Pearl Harbor National Memorial. The project was spearheaded by Harrison Johnson, a 12-year-old student who has raised more than $110,000 to bring this vision to life. Working closely with Pacific Historic Parks, Harrison has developed a first-of-its-kind VR program that immerses children in the events of December 7, 1941.
This powerful educational tool ensures that the stories of courage, sacrifice and resilience will continue to live on, connecting young learners across Hawai‘i and beyond with one of the most pivotal moments in history. Harrison’s dedication reminds us that preserving memory is a shared responsibility and that even the youngest among us can make a lasting difference.
Join us at Pearl Harbor National Memorial as we honor Harrison’s achievement and experience history in a way never before possible.

Long before they became iconic military sites, Puʻuloa (Pearl Harbor) and Lēʻahi (Diamond Head) held deep significance for Native Hawaiians.
Puʻuloa was a rich fishery and cultural hub, while Lēʻahi was used for navigation, ceremonies and as a vantage point. Both sites are layered with history that connects us to the land and the people who first called it home.

This is a great addition to our existing Hello Kitty Collections featured at both Diamond Head and Pearl Harbor! | | | Kalaupapa National Historical Park
Pacific Historic Parks proudly announces the reopening of guided tours to Kalaupapa National Historical Park. Visitors can once again experience this sacred and historic place, where stories of hardship, perseverance and compassion come together.
For over a century, individuals diagnosed with Hansen’s disease (leprosy) were exiled to the remote peninsula of Kalaupapa on Moloka‘i. Cut off from family and community, residents built a life of resilience and dignity in the face of profound isolation. Today, Kalaupapa stands as a powerful reminder of both the pain of separation and the enduring strength of the human spirit.
The resumption of tours offers a rare opportunity to learn directly from the landscape itself, walking where residents once lived, visiting the settlement and reflecting at sites tied to both tragedy and triumph. It also reaffirms the park’s mission to share these stories with respect, sensitivity and aloha, ensuring that the lessons of Kalaupapa will not be forgotten.
Space for tours is limited, and reservations are required.
