UN WATER CONFERENCE

The UN 2023 Water Conference took place at UN Headquarters in New York March 22-24. The Conference united more than 10,000 global stakeholders to address the urgent water crisis. The Pacific Institute played a crucial role in the conference, convening private sector leaders and providing thought leadership on a variety of water issues and solutions.

The session emphasized the importance of water efficiency and reuse, showcased successful strategies for promoting uptake, and identified opportunities for scaling up implementation on national and global levels.

Business Leaders’ Open Call to Accelerate Action on Water 

The event demonstrated the power of collective action and business commitments to accelerate progress towards water resilience and emphasized the need for cross-sector collaboration to achieve large-scale impact. 


  • More than 60 companies operating in 130 countries have joined the Open Call and pledged to build water resilience in their operations and supply chains, aiming for a positive impact in 100 vulnerable water basins by 2030 
  • Co-convened by Aquafed, Ceres, CEO Water Mandate, International Chamber of Commerce, and Alliance for Water Stewardship

SDG Media Zone @ UN Headquarters 

Pacific Institute President and CEO Water Mandate Head Jason Morrison joined a distinguished panel at the SDG Media Zone. The discussion was part of the official launch the groundbreaking Business Leaders' Open Call for Water Action.


The conversation was led by Sanda Ojiambo, Assistant Secretary-General and CEO, United Nations Global Compact.

The session highlighted key interlinkages between water, conflict, and peace. Discussions included policy recommendations and practical strategies to mitigate water-related tensions and promote peaceful water management practices.

  • Co-convened by Pacific Institute, Circle of Blue, World Resources Institute, and The Hague Centre for Strategic Studies
