Call for Coach of the Year Nominations
Deadline: February 14

Whatever the reason we start Masters swimming, many of us depend on our coaches to keep us coming back to the pool. Whether it is providing stroke instruction to help us improve or stay injury-free, workouts that are interesting and challenging, or a word of encouragement when we are feeling down, our coaches are an essential element of our swimming routine. Please consider recognizing his or her efforts by nominating your coach for the Pacific Masters Coach of the Year Award. Submissions should include a nomination letter along with a maximum of four support letters. A description of the award along with the nomination and selection process can be found in the Pacific Masters Administrative Handbook. An excerpt of the relevant section can be downloaded by clicking here. Nominations for Pacific Masters Coach of the Year are due Wednesday, February 14, 2018 and should be sent to the Chair of Pacific Masters.

By noon, you'll be ready for an afternoon lunch at any of the great eateries on nearby Solano Avenue.  Registration and flyer.   Registration

USMS Officials Training
Saturday, March 10 and Sunday, March 25

Pacific Masters is proud to announce Officials Clinics at upcoming meets. The first two meets at which the training will be offered are the March 10 meet at Rinconada Pool in Palo Alto, and the March 25 meet at Spieker Pool at the University of California-Berkeley. Eligibility: ANYONE age 18 or over! Membership in USMS is recommended but not required. No USA Swimming officiating background is necessary. Prerequisites: View the training videos and complete the Stroke & Turn test which can be found online at http://www.usms.org/admin/lmschb/content/officialscert. (If you are not already a member of USA Swimming, you WILL need to create a usaswimming.org online account but you do NOT need to be a member of USA Swimming to do this.) If you've completed the test but haven't gotten your certification back yet, you can still train pending that. Contact Mike Abegg for any questions and to let him know if you're planning on attending. Please wear a reasonably-plain white shirt, and report to the pool deck at 7:45 (to the starter/referee table) for a short briefing and discussion. IMPORTANT: If you want to also swim at the meet, that will be fine. We will adjust training to give you time "off deck" as needed to allow you to warm up, compete, and cool-down.

Registration is now open. USMS has declared April to be Learn-To-Swim month, so this the perfect time to take the course so you can help out the many people who would like to learn how to swim.  Later in the year, Dec. 2, USMS will again offer this course.
Cal Aquatic Masters Spring Meet
Sunday, March 25

Spieker Pool on the UC Berkeley campus will once again be the place to be on March 25. This ever-popular meet will have a large variety of events and relays. Information and Registration.
Postal Events

Don't forget the USMS 1-Hour ePostal National Championship and TAM Miracle Mile Postal Swim both run through the end of February.  If you haven't entered them both, February is a terrific month to swim in California.
Editor's Note

The meet season has begun! If you haven't ever swum in a meet (or haven't since you were in high school) you should give it try. I guarantee you that no matter what your time is, your friends will say "good job" when you get out of the water.
