Call for 2021 Coach of the Year Nominations
Deadline: February 18
2021 continued to be a challenging year for our coaches as many teams experienced drops in membership, facility closures, and our typical schedule of in-person competitions was interrupted. Despite these challenges, Pacific Masters coaches still managed to find ways to encourage their swimmers, doing more than what was expected of them.
Do you have a coach that went above and beyond in 2021? Please consider recognizing their efforts by nominating your coach for the Pacific Masters Coach of the Year Award. Submissions should include a nomination letter along with a maximum of four support letters.
A description of the award along with the nomination and selection process can be found here. More details can be found here. Nominations for Pacific Masters Coach of the Year should be sent to the chair@pacificmasters.org and are due by February 18, 2022.

Coach's Mentoring Network
2022 is the year we build our network of mentors for Pacific Masters swim coaches. There will be three coaches in each Mentor Triad. One is a Gold Coach with 20+ years coaching experience, another is a Silver Coach with 10 - 19 years of coaching experience, and a third is a Bronze Coach with fewer than 9 years of coaching experience. The network will cross all geographic boundaries in our LMSC.
The program launched in December, and the Mentor Triads will be put together very soon. We intend to meet at least once or twice a month throughout 2022-23. It's not too late to participate. Please register your interest and commitment here: Coaches Mentoring Network.

Greatest of All Time
GOAT's New Meaning
The lowly goat once had a bad reputation. Charles Schultz used the term "goat" to mean loser. In his comic strip, the character Charlie Brown was put in the position to become either the hero or the goat. If Charlie caught the ball, his team would win, and he would be celebrated as the hero. If he dropped it, which was the usual occurrence, his team would lose, and he would be chastised as the goat.
In present-day usage, the acronym GOAT represents the phrase, "Greatest of All Time" - how things have changed! Swimming World Magazine has compiled a short list of swimming's GOATS. We are all familiar with Phelps and Ledecky, but others have paved the way, earning our respect for their accomplishments and the now distinguished title, the GOAT. Honoring the Greatest World Records
