9th Annual Ross Yancher Memorial Brute Squad ePostal Swim
November 1-30

This traditional DAM event has a new identity in recognition of its founder, Ross Yancher. Ross, the Davis Aquatic Masters head coach from 1981 to 1988, passed away late last year and the event was renamed in his memory.
Over the past eight years, nearly 1000 USMS members have competed in the event.
The Brute Squad event takes the three most difficult events in swimming -- the 200 butterfly, the 400 IM, and the 1650 freestyle -- and combines them into a single event!

6th Annual MEMO 400 Kick for Time
December 1, 2017-January 10, 2018

Here's the event good kickers have been waiting for! Win a postal meet without even pulling. Just kick 400 yards! Any stroke is allowed and any length course will do. Kicking is great overall conditioning, contributes greatly to your speed in sprinting, and burns lots of calories. What's not to like? Team entries available. Hosted by Marcia's Enthusiastic Masters of Oakland (MEMO). Registration opens December 1st. Information and registration.
TOC 1500 Meter Meet Cancelled
January 2018

To take care of needed repairs at their pool, The Olympic Club has cancelled their 1500 meter meet. Out-of-town swimmers, serious competitors, fair-weather meetgoers and first-time visitors to the oldest masters swim team club in the nation will be disappointed about this cancellation, however the meet will be held later in the year at the updated facility
Richmond Plunge Masters Mini Clinics
First Wednesday of Every Month

Richmond Plunge Masters offers a monthly one-hour clinic on the first Wednesday of each month at 6 pm. The focus of the clinics is on strokes and turns.
The next clinic will be on December 6 and will concentrate on butterfly.

Individual 2018 membership renewal is now open. Click here for the link. Please consider either saving your card as a PDF or printing it at home. It will save lots of trees and stamps if you do!  We will still mail your card for those without a printer or those who really like to have the official card.
Call for Articles

Articles about swimming that may be pertinent for Pacific Masters swimmers can be submitted here for consideration. The deadline for submissions scheduled to run in the next Update is December 6. The Update does not produce or post articles over 100 words in length. If you have authored a longer swimming-related article that has appeared in another publication, the Update will be happy to run a link to your article along with a brief description of its contents.
Editor's Note
DAM Wedding

Two Pacific Masters swimmers who met 30 months ago in Lane 7 at the 1pm Davis Aquatics Masters practice were married in that same lane at that same time on October 13.
Cristina Martinez-Canton, the local synchronized swim coach, and Ignacio Castano-Aguado, one of the clubs most-improved swimmers, were joined in marriage in front of friends and teammates by DAM head coach Stu Kahn.
Over the past four decades, numerous couples have met at a DAM practice or social event, and gone on to marry. But this one was different, combining a wedding and a wetting - everyone wore suits.
