Pacific Masters Annual Meeting
November 12

Natalie Coughlin, Olympic gold medalist, world champion and record holder, is our keynote speaker at this year's Pacific Masters Annual Meeting on Sunday, November 12 at St. Mary's College, Moraga.  You are invited.  The morning commences with a refreshing swim workout in which you might be surprised to swim in a lane next to Natalie.  A breakfast snack follows along with a morning tech talk.  Lunch is served in an atmosphere of being at a reunion, leading up to America's swim darling at the podium.  Hold the date on your calendar, and stay for the business meeting that follows.
Short Course Meter Championships
October 13-15
SCM Championships in friendly Walnut Creek will convene over three days during California's Indian Summer when lingering warmer days are welcomed.   Long and short events, and relays are offered.  A most unique race, last year, featured a heat of butterfly swimmers who raced the stroke in backwards motion.  The imagination, prior to this, could hardly picture six lanes of these "gutsy" athletes.  What unique races can we look forward to this year?  This meet is for experienced and first-time competitors,  Information and   registration. Deadline for online entries is October 4th.
STAS/ARM Distance Meet, ARM, Sacramento

From the Editor
The Impact of USMS' Swimming Saves Lives Foundation and Adult Learn to Swim Lessons
The headlines in Fort Worth, Texas, were harrowing. Several fatal drownings, including one involving a Masters swimmer who had been swimming in a lake, had led recent newscasts, and the Masters swimmers on Fort Worth's Team Ridglea were paying attention.
Using USMS-developed programs, the Fort Worth Drowning Prevention Coalition came to life and served 356 students this past summer.
