Michael Moore Wins Capt. Ransom J. Arthur Award

We are delighted to announce that USMS has recognized Michael Moore's decades of service to Masters swimming at the club level, within PacMasters, and nationally by naming him as the 2017 recipient of the Capt. Ransom J. Arthur M.D. Award. Among his many other contributions, nicely summarized here, Michael developed one of the first LMSC websites and the biweekly Pacific Update you are now reading. Warmest congratulations on a well-deserved honor, Michael!
Spring Lake Swims

The 25th annual Spring Lake Swims (500m and 1-mile) will take place at Spring Lake Park in Santa Rosa California on May 20. Paper entry must be received before May 15. Online registration ends at 11:59 pm on May 18. Race-day registration begins at 7:30am and closes at 8:30am.  Information and registration.
Bay Area Senior Games
May 21

This meet for swimmers age 50 and over will be held at Rinconada Pool in Palo Alto. There is a good variety of events scheduled and since there usually aren't a lot of USMS swimmers at this meet, it's a good one for people who don't normally compete. Registration info is online.
35th Annual Lake Berryessa Swim
June 3

Davis Aquatic Masters' Annual Lake Berryessa Swim is one of the longest-running open water swim events in America. Begun in 1981, this event now attracts over 500 swimmers each year and features 1- and 2-mile swims. The overflowing lake levels this year promise another memorable swim full of fun and personal accomplishments! Registration is now open.
Oceania Zone LCM Masters Championships
June 3-4

The FIRST EVER Oceania Zone LCM Masters Championship will be held June 3-4 in Kihei on Maui. There is a limited number of 1500M entries (2 heats).  Oceania is the Pacific Zone plus Hawaii Zone. Meet information and registration are live now. Deadline for entries is May 31.
Lake Del Valle Open Water Swims
June 10-11

This year, the Lake Del Valle event will start on Saturday with a 5K/10K. The swims will run at the same time. You have to pre-register for the 10K and be able to meet the 3 ½ hour cut off time to swim the event.  On Sunday, the 1.2K and the 2.5K will be held.  If you're new to open water swimming, try the 1.2K swim.   It's run first.  For a good workout, do both.  Plenty of parking.  A good place to bring the kids:  they have a roped off swimming area. Information and Registration.
Keelhauler LCM Time Trials
June 25

Just getting into competitions? Looking for an event that is a great first meet for new swimmers but will test seasoned swimmers too? Come test-drive your long course meter swimming races in a low-key time trial atmosphere, in a brand-new pool facility! Held at the Maritime Academy Aquatics Center at California State University in Vallejo. Sponsored by Cal Maritime Academy Masters. Note: The time trials are intended to gain experience in swimming long course and will not count for records or Top Ten. All times are unofficial. Registration.

Coach Appreciation Week
May 7-14

Our coaches are an essential element of our swimming routine, yet it can be easy to take them for granted and neglect to thank them for their efforts. For this reason, Pacific Masters Swimming has designated the week beginning with the first Sunday in May as Coach Appreciation Week. This special week begins on May 7 this year.

A few ideas for showing your appreciation:
For individuals:
  • A card or email telling your coach how he/she helped you accomplish a goal
  • A gift card or certificate for coffee, ice cream, a movie, a meal, or a small present
For clubs:
  • A breakfast, lunch, or dinner to honor your coach.
  • A certificate for a weekend away or a special meal with his/her partner.
