2016 Dorothy Donnelly Service Award Winners

USMS recognizes the commitment of those who give back with the Dorothy Donnelly Service Award, named to honor one of USMS's outstanding volunteers. The award recognizes those whose contributions stand out in service to local, regional, and national programs. This year, Laura Val and David Wierdsma were the Donnelly Award winners from the Pacific Masters Swimming LMSC.

International Swimming Hall of Fame inductee Laura Val has been volunteering for USMS since 1988 and currently serves on the Sports Medicine, Championship, and Recognitions and Awards committees. Her contributions involve hard work, valuable insight, and progressive ideas as she works quietly behind the scenes. Laura is eager to help swimmers at all levels as she continues to inspire the swimming community with her achievements.

David Wierdsma can be considered the voice of the U.S. Masters Swimming National Championships. As a frequent announcer at the USMS Spring and Summer Nationals, Dave has been instrumental in getting everyone cheering, highlighting important records and inspirational swimmers, and keeping the crowd engaged. Dave is also a fixture at Pacific Masters swim meets, where his fun and gregarious attitude is well known.

Congratulations, Laura and David!
