This Sunday's Sermon and Song List
This week we're continuing our short series on some core Christian doctrines. After spending two weeks carefully considering the doctrine of sin, we turn now to the opposite subject: The Holiness of God. We will particularly consider how God's Holiness and Supremacy spur us to worship and imitate Him in our lives. Consider reading Isaiah 6 and Isaiah 40 to prepare yourself for worship this Sunday and all that God has prepared for us!

To get yourself ready to sing on Sunday you can start listening to the songs we'll be singing together:
  • Only A Holy God
  • O Praise The Name
  • Holy Holy Holy
  • Holy Is The Lord
We created a playlist on Youtube in case you want to start listening today. You can find that by clicking HERE.
Pack a Lunch and Pray This Sunday
This Sunday after church we will have a special, congregational prayer meeting after the service, followed by a "pack" or "order" your own lunch time of fellowship for any and all that wish to stay.
There are many worthy prayer items to bring before the Lord as a congregation and so I would highly encourage everyone to attend. It would be especially important to attend if you are a covenant member of Discovery. It is right and good for us, as a body, to more regularly gather for prayer and to encourage one another with testimonies. Start thinking now about how you can make more space in your Sunday for these sweet times of prayer and fellowship!
This Week in The Gospel Centered Life
Lesson 4: Law and Gospel
THIS WEEK'S BIG IDEA: We are still thinking about how the gospel interacts with our lives, but now we are doing it by considering the gospel's relationship to the law. What is the law? Does God expect me to obey it? What is the purpose of the law? How does the law help me to believe the gospel? How does the gospel help me to obey the law? Join as we really begin to dive deeply into how the gospel is applied to everyday temptation and situations.

Basic Overview of the Class: Lots of Christians talk about the gospel, but how many really understand the gospel and know how to apply it to their lives? Featuring nine self-contained lessons with discussion questions, articles, and practical exercises "The Gospel-Centered Life" helps us understand how the gospel shapes every aspect of life.
Women's Prayer Meetings
Prayer, prayer and more prayer. All women are encouraged to participate in our prayer time Thursday, October 7th, at 2:00 PM. We will meet in the Women's Ministry area and will dedicate our time to prayer for individuals, our church, our city and area, our state, and our nation. We plan to meet for prayer every first Thursday at 2:00 PM and third Thursdays at 7:00 PM throughout 2021. Please join us!

DID YOU KNOW...There's a Men's Bible Study every Monday Morning at Fryn' Pan!
Attention guys: if you like to rise early (or even if you don't) and you like good breakfast food, fellowship with other guys and good conversation over God's timeless truths, then you should join the men's bible study that happens every week at Fryn' Pan at 6:45 AM! Right now they are studying the Book of Proverbs. Check it Out
If there's one thing we need for navigating life in the 21st century, it's this: wisdom. But God hasn't left us guessing as to what that looks like. He's given us a whole book of wisdom, Proverbs, which points us to Jesus - wisdom personified and exemplified.
Discover how to enjoy living in line with God's wisdom as you walk through Proverbs in these eight engaging and practical Bible studies.
More Than A Battle: How to Experience Victory, Freedom and Healing from Lust
Just a heads up for what's around the corner for guys at Discovery Church! Starting on October 23rd MEN'S BREAKFAST will return and we'll be discussing the subject of sexual purity. Discussions will revolve around Joe Rigney's incredibly helpful book, "More Than a Battle". Our times together in discussion will be especially designed to facilitate small groups of guys who want to dive deeper into the battle in between the monthly men's breakfast meetings. Contact Pastor Cory if you want a book or read the description below and follow the link to get a copy:

It has never been more difficult to flee sexual immorality and pursue holiness. We live in an age of unprecedented access to sexual temptation. Previous generations faced adultery, prostitution, and brothels. But not every person had a brothel in their pocket. Our society’s obsession with sex, coupled with the technologies that make pornography so accessible, make it more challenging than it’s ever been. The result is that our families, our churches, and our society are being devastated by a pornography epidemic.
In More than a Battle, pastor and author Joe Rigney offers hope for Christian men who are seeking to live with integrity and faithfulness in the face of the sexual temptation around them. Drawing on the Scriptures, his personal experience, and his pastoral counseling, Rigney frames the struggle with lust beneath the banner of Galatians 5:16: "Walk by the Spirit and you will not gratify the desires of the flesh.” The struggle with lust is a fierce battle, an enslaving addiction, and a deep brokenness. Rigney shows us that through the gospel it is the Holy Spirit that gives us victory, sets us free, and heals our wounds.

DISCOVERY ZONE HIGHLIGHT:
1st-3rd Grade
The ABC's Of God
The ABCs of God is curriculum for children on the greatness and worth of God. It uses the alphabet as a framework for learning the attributes of God and other terms that describe His character. Each lesson asks and answers three key questions, "Who is God?" "What is He like?" and "How should I act toward Him?" as it presents a theology of God for children. Students will discover a new attribute of God each week and will be challenged to consider how they should respond to an amazing God who is worthy of their greatest love, honor, trust, and obedience.

Thank you to Vicki O'Bryan and Erin Pedersen for teaching this energetic class! Pray for Vicki and Erin this week as they work so hard and so faithfully to show Christ to our kids!
Grief Share Surviving the Holidays Seminar
November 14th at 6:00PM

The isolating effects of the pandemic have complicated the grieving process for many bereaved people, and they’re heading into the holiday season feeling especially alone without their loved one. This is why Surviving the Holidays is needed now more than ever.

The 2 hour seminar will be taught by Neal and Kerri Dodge on Sunday, November 14th at 6:00PM. Each participant will receive a personal copy of the Grief Share Holiday Survival Guide of their own to keep. To reserve your spot, please call the church office (605)689-2211.
