It's Time to Pack the Bags!
This Sunday, November 11
details below....
This Week at Christ Church
Thanksgiving Food Drive
All hands on deck this Sunday
We'll pack bags Sunday, November 11
The outpouring of support for this year's Thanksgiving Food Drive has been overwhelming. Thanks to your generosity and an amazing donation of $10,000 we will far exceed our initial goal of 250...we will be packing Thanksgiving fixins' for 450 families and they will each receive a $20 grocery gift card. We are astounded and grateful beyond words.

So EVERYONE will need to head over to the day school hallways, grab an empty bag, and fill it in the assembly line with all the generous donations you have made these past weeks. Families at St. Mark's, St. Luke's, St. Alban's, The Episcopal Church Center, Uptown Community Services and Strand Housing will have a true thanksgiving meal because of you!

It's Book Fair Time at CCDS
Scholastic Books
Just in time for your holiday shopping, the day school will once again host the book fair with Scholastic Books. The fair will be set up in Hinde Hall and will be available Sunday, November 11 and during school hours the entire following week. This is a great opportunity to purchase books for the youngsters in your life and benefit the day school at the same time. Books make great gifts for Advent Angel children too!

Advent Angels Continue
Packages due by December 2

Choose to help Head Start families
Our annual holiday toy drive to benefit low-income families served by ECS's Head Start , is underway.  We are the only church in the Diocese that supports ECS Head Start families with Christmas gifts...and there are nearly 2,000 families in the program!

Look for the Angels on the Hinde Hall porch. Take a card for a girl or boy, ages 3, 4, or 5, from the Angels. Buy a gift for that child and return it unwrapped to Hinde Hall by or on December 2. We join God at work in the world as we take a card - or two, or three! - and supply  some Christmas joy for a preschool-aged boy or girl.

Thrift Shop Boutique
A week earlier this year
christmas_wreath_ribbon.jpg
To make room for all the Christmas booty that will be featured in the Christmas Boutique, the shop has a huge clearing out sale November 6-8. Items will be priced to move.

Then the shop will be closed Friday, November 9 and Saturday, November 10 to transform the shop into a Christmas wonderland. Put on your holiday spirit and start your shopping early at the boutique November 12, 4:30-6:30 p.m.

In-Gathering Sunday
Thanks and a blessing
Thank you for responding to the invitation to "Join GOD at Work in the World." To celebrate the culmination of our stewardship season and to bless the pledges that have been made for the year ahead, will have a festive Ingathering Sunday, November 18. There will be a bagel bar and mimosas - so don't miss out. Oh, and, don't forget to submit your pledge if you have not already done so!

Sunday Supper
RSVPs are a must!
Sunday, November 18 5:00-6:30 p.m .
Our Sunday Suppers have been a wonderful addition to our monthly offerings. The November supper falls on Sunday, November 18. We have all enjoyed this gathering for supper and simple worship service in community, from 5:00 to 6:30 p.m. in Hinde Hall. Everyone will be busy planning for the Thanksgiving week ahead and we want to be prepared too! So...if you plan to attend we ask that you please respond by 3:00 p.m. Tuesday, November 13

Thanksgiving Day Eucharist
Thursday, November 22 at 10:00 a.m.
Thanksgiving always brings families together, so get the turkey in the oven and then bring your family and join with the Christ Church family to give thanks for all our many blessings. The Thanksgiving offering will be shared by two of our partners in ministry: St. Luke's, North Park and St. Mark's, City Heights .

Lessons and Carols
Sunday, December 9 - 4:00 p.m.
We will celebrate the Advent season with the Festival of Lessons and Carols, a service of Christian worship celebrating the birth of Jesus inaugurating the Advent/Christmastide season. The story of the fall of humanity, the promise of the Messiah, and the birth of Jesus are told in nine short Bible readings from Genesis, the prophetic books and the Gospels, interspersed with the singing of Christmas carols, hymns and choir music in a lovely service reminiscent of the annual King's College, Cambridge England service of Lessons and Carols. A reception follows with wassail and English shortbread. Please join us and bring friends to this lovely service.

Stewardship Reflection

A Wise soul once sand, "Do all the good you can, by all the means you can, in all the ways you can, in all the places you can, at all the times you can, to all the people you can, a long as ever you can." This points to the heart of stewardship. Stewardship is all we do with all we have all the time. Scripture calls us to use everything we have to point others to God and the kingdom of heaven. In that spirit, I encourage you to give generously to your congregation's fall ingathering. For the kingdom of heaven is as near as your own breath and as tangible as your gifts, which enable the work God has called you to in your community of faith.

Stewardship Campaign
Our annual giving season continues and will culminate in a festive Ingathering Celebration on Sunday, November 18 at both services with mimosas and a bagel bar at 9:00 a.m. Have you pledged yet? We hope that every parishioner prayerfully considers participating at some level.

Pledging allows the vestry and staff to anticipate the annual income for 2019 and budget accordingly enabling us to RSVP to the generous GOD whom we worship and serve.  If you have not already received a pledge card, they are available in the parish office, at the entry to the church and the Welcome Tent. Online pledging is also an easy option, simply click the "Count Me In!" button belowThank you to the 110 families who have committed $417,626 towards the operating expenses in 2019.

Thank You for the Ofrenda
Dia de los Muertos celebration
Thank you to the parishioners who brought in photos of their loved ones to place on the ofrenda in the Memorial Garden. Thank you to Charlette Preslar and Zachary and Bryn Reina for setting it all up Sunday mornin; it was loverly. We hope that this will be a tradition we continue to celebrate in the future.

If you lent a photo and have not yet picked it up, they are all in the parish office.

Outreach/Service Ministry
Service Sunday
November 18 - after both services
This new outreach opportunity is through a partnership with the
Youth Assistance Coalition,
who work to identify homeless youth, provide connection and opportunities, and work to break the cycle of youth homelessness. The Youth Assistance Coalition goes through over 100 bags per week. The bags are distributed during their outreach program, providing not only the opportunity to provide a meal, but also for connection. Join us after both services to pack bags to send to this wonderful organization! There will also be a table where you can write a note to be included in the bags.

Interfaith  Rotational Shelter
Would you volunteer?
The Interfaith Shelter is coming to St. Mark's from November 25-December 9. Please help  provide people like Ruth with a warm & safe place to sleep, showers, and meals.

Volunteers are needed to host spending a night and/or making a meal. Without volunteers this program would not be possible. Volunteers spending a night have dinner with the guests, make lunches for the next day, set out breakfast for the next morning, and assist as needed.

For more details and  sign up for overnight host click hereFor more details and sign up for meals - click here

Deadline to sign up for volunteering is November 12.  Thank you for your consideration to assist with this wonderful project to help the homeless better themselves. If you have any questions please  email Marti Helmers
