Forget the "Apple Isle" - we now have the "Olive Island! Flinders Island Olives emerged the star of the prestigious Royal Adelaide Olive Awards, at its gala dinner event in South Australia on 29 August.
The Tasmanian brand took out an impressive Gold Award, acknowledging it as one of the competition's most outstanding olive oils. The win was followed by the highly sought after “Best in Class” for robust oils, “Best Multi-variety” and finally, “Best in Show”.
Proprietor Jude Kazaly was understandably thrilled with the results: “I thought that this was a beautiful olive oil when I entered it into the competition. Although this was a difficult year with the climate, it did produce the high polyphenol levels that I want in my olive oil, as these is what gives the oil both the depth of flavour and the health qualities of a good extra virgin olive oil."
The Royal Adelaide Olive Awards is judged by a highly trained 12-member team, led by Head Judge Trudie Michels who is also convener of the Australian International Olive Awards.
It is organised by Olives SA and the Royal Adelaide Show, and has been running for 30 years.
