Cool Your Watering as the Temperature Drops

Landscapes need less water as the weather cools due to rainfall and less evaporation. Now is a good time to double check your irrigation to ensure:

  • Plants are not being overwatered
  • There are no leaks in your system
  • Runoff is not occurring
  • Watering is taking place before dawn or after dusk

Even adjustments like watering for a few minutes less each week can help to reduce water use. Use the watering calculator for help developing a customized watering schedule that meets your landscape's needs.
East County Advanced Water Purification Project Construction Updates
Construction on the East County Advanced Water Purification Program is well under way.

The site of the new Advanced Water Purification facilities is being prepared by filling two previous storage ponds with soil and grading for construction. Concrete pouring has begun in order to form infrastructure at this site.

Work is beginning to take place for the 10-mile purified water pipeline that will stretch from the new Advanced Water Purification treatment facility to Lake Jennings. Efforts for this pipeline are starting on the east end of the pipeline near Lake Jennings.
Additionally, potholing and pipeline deliveries have set the stage for the beginning of construction on a wastewater pipeline near Fanita Parkway and Santee Lakes. A trenchless underground technique has begun for the pipeline near Mission Gorge Road and the 52 west on-ramp.

The Program will be constructed in phases through late 2025 by different specialized and qualified contractors. Throughout the project schedules and work descriptions will be shared on an interactive map on www.eastcountyawp.com. This important water supply project is a collaborative partnership between Padre Dam, the County of San Diego, the City of El Cajon and Helix Water District.
