Dear Providence Residents,
I hope this newsletter finds you and your family safe and well. Many members of the community have asked, "how can I help?" This edition gives you ways to volunteer safely from home. In addition to volunteering tips, I have included updates on the Executive Order, Microloans, and the Proposed Budget:
Executive Order:
-Governor Northam extended the Executive Order until May 8, which defined closures for essential and non-essential businesses. Read the details
here
.
-The stay-at-home order is still in effect until June 10.
-Governor Northam also promised that he is working with Maryland, DC, and North Carolina to coordinate the appropriate time for any future re-openings.
Microloans:
-The Board of Supervisors met on Tuesday and authorized a microloan fund in which small businesses can apply for loans of up to $20,000 at 0% interest.
-Businesses that employ less than 50 people make up 94% of Fairfax County businesses.
These microloans will serve as support for businesses that might not qualify for loans from the SBA, for example due to credit history and immigration status.
