Dear Providence Residents,
I am proud to see our community come together and support one another during this time. Health concerns, economic hardships, and staying home have been so difficult, but following the safety guidelines has helped slow the spread of COVID-19 in our highly populated area. Nevertheless, there is more work to be done to get to a place where we can safely reopen businesses.
Governor Northam has extended his executive order for non-essential business closures and restaurant restrictions through May 28th for Northern Virginia. In addition to details on updated COVID-19 guidelines, we have several other Providence District updates in this edition of our newsletter. Please find information below on the following topics:
- Governor Northam Delays Phase I for Northern VA
- Garden Plots & Farmers Markets Reopening
- Glass Recycling Reopening
- Grocery Assistance for Seniors
- Board Approves New Grant Program: Fairfax RISE
- FY 2021 Adopted Budget
- Transportation Updates
- Food for Others Community Food Drive
I hope this newsletter finds you and your family safe and well.
With Gratitude,
Supervisor Dalia Palchik

Governor Northam Delays Phase I for Northern VA
|
|
Governor Northam's new Executive Order 62 can be found
here
, an overview of the action
here
.
This new order, which includes restrictions from his previous orders, will
go into effect 12:00 a.m. Friday, May 15, and extend until 11:59 pm, Thu, May 28, unless otherwise amended or rescinded
. This means
that our region must continue to stay home and follow health directives. This will be incredibly important not only to move into Phase I of Governor Northam's Forward Virginia Plan, but Phase II, which will allow many more businesses to open.
The Northern Virginia region will continue to track the necessary statistics in order to reopen our economy as soon as possible based on public safety and data.
The data shows we don't meet the health criteria needed to move forward into Phase I:
- A downward trend of positive tests for over 14 days
- A downward trend of hospitalizations for over 14 days
- An increased capacity for both testing and contact testing
- Sufficient hospital beds and ICU capacity
- A sustained supply of personal protective equipment
COVID-19 Case Dashboard
- The Fairfax County Health Department has added new data points to its COVID-19 Case Data Dashboard in an effort to keep the public informed during the COVID-19 emergency.
- The dashboard now includes: probable cases, deceased cases by age group, and COVID-19 testing by week.
- The case rates are now presented by 5-digit zip codes.
