Now that we are in Phase Three, County services such as tax counters, building permits, health clinics and RECenters are phasing into in-person reopenings. Tax Counters
–
Department of Tax Administration
service counters will be open for limited service on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. for walk-in service in the
Government Center
.
Staff will provide full service for all tax needs during those hours. Face coverings are required, and social distancing signs and floor decals are in place. However, most transactions can be
conducted online
. For more information on whether an in-person visit is required, call 703-222-8234.
Building Permits, Plans and Inspections
– Limited customer services are being offered by Land Development Services (LDS) in the lobby of the
Herrity Building
, Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. to noon. However, LDS is only accepting electronic submissions for permits and plans. For questions and trouble-shooting related to an ongoing project,
call

or schedule an appointment.
Zoning Permits and Applications – Application submissions are only being accepted online, by mail or via the drop box in front of the
Herrity Building
. However, the Department of Planning and Development will schedule
in-person appointments
on an as-needed basis, Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. to noon, to accommodate individuals with limited access to technology resources or specific needs.
Essential services offered include limited immunizations, pregnancy tests, STI services, TB testing, WIC services and yellow fever immunizations. To make an appointment, call 703-246-7100. Please note that the Health Department does not offer COVID-19 testing. Contact your health care provider if you are seeking COVID-19 testing or see the

Behavioral Health, Substance Use Disorders and Developmental Disability
– The
Community Service Board’s
(CSB) 24/7 services, such as emergency services, Mobile Crisis Unit, residential services and other community-based services, continue to be available. Some other services can be accessed on-site, as well, at certain locations, including individual therapy, case management/support coordination, group therapy, psychiatric services, nursing services, pharmacy services, emergency services, homeless drop-in service, detoxification services, residential treatment and crisis stabilization.
Call the CSB site prior to going for any reason, other than emergency services. CSB’s
assistance from a distance flyer
includes phone numbers and hours of operation for all sites. For additional questions, call the Entry and Referral line at 703-383-8500, Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
RECenters
–The county’s nine RECenters will
reopen in phases
over the next several weeks, starting with Lee District, Oak Marr and Spring Hill RECenters on July 13. A RECenter membership provides access to any of the open RECenter.
The other RECenters will open as follows:
- July 20 – Audrey Moore, Cub Run and South Run RECenters.
- July 27 – George Washington, Mount Vernon and Providence RECenters.

I-66 single lanes on and around Vaden Drive and Cedar Lane July 16 and 17 nights
- I-66 West will be reduced to one travel lane during overnight hours on July 16 and 17 between I-495 and Vaden Drive for bridge pier construction at Cedar Lane and bridge beam installation at Vaden Drive. Drivers should expect periodic 30-minute stoppages nightly.
- I-66 East will be reduced to a single travel lane during overnight hours on July 16 and 17 between Vaden Drive and Cedar Lane for bridge pier demolition. Drivers should expect periodic 20-minute stoppages between midnight and 4 a.m. nightly
I-66 detour west to south Nutley Street starting late July 17
- The loop ramp from I-66 West to southbound Nutley Street will close beginning on or about Friday evening, July 17, with a detour lasting about six weeks and directing drivers to Nutley. This is part of the Transform 66 project, and more temporary ramps and signals are coming for duration of two years before the interchange is completed.

The loop ramp from I-66 West to southbound Nutley Street will close on or about July 18, 2020. Traffic will temporarily be detoured farther west to the exit for the Vienna/Fairfax/GMU Metro and follow signs to access Nutley Street South.

Metro Reopening Six Stations August 16
Metro will reopen six Fairfax County stations and restore Silver Line service on August 16, weeks earlier than originally planned. The six stations reopening on August 16 are McLean, Tysons Corner, Greensboro, Spring Hill, and Wiehle-Reston East plus one Orange Line station: West Falls Church
Face coverings are mandatory on Metro trains and buses, including buses in Fairfax County.

Metro Board seeks individuals to serve on new Metro Transit Police Investigations Review Panel
The new Metro Transit Police Investigations Review Panel (IRP) is an independent advisory body that can recommend changes to MTPD training and policies. Any member of the community with an interest in serving is welcome to apply. Applications will be accepted through 5 p.m. July 31, on Metro’s website at

Special pick-up delays:

continues to experience delays. Pickups are now about 1 week behind on collection.
Yard waste collection:
Pickup is running behind on yard waste by 1 day.
If customer’s special pick-up or yard waste is not collected on the regular collection day, customer should leave it at the curb/street line and it will be collected as soon as possible. Staff is currently working through Saturdays to service customers.

Library Express Services Began on Monday, July 13th
- Express services will be available at all locations Monday–Tuesday 10 a.m.–8 p.m. and Wednesday–Saturday 10 a.m.–6 p.m., while curbside services will continue to be offered Monday–Saturday 10 a.m.–4 p.m.
- Face masks covering your nose and mouth are required in the building.
- Limit visits to 30 minutes or less. Aim to grab your materials and go! 30 minutes is a guideline, not a hard-and-fast rule.
- Maintain 6 feet of distance from others not in your household.
- Returns must be deposited to book drop or bin for returns. Returned items that have been handled but not checked out are quarantined for 72 hours before being checked in or returned to the shelves.

Food for Others and Grow a Row FC

on a community based food drive to feed those in need during COVID-19.

Have sun and some space? Grow food for yourself and your community
Grow a Row FC
is seeking volunteers to join its community-wide effort to grow fresh produce for
Food for Others
and its food pantry partners during this public health and economic crisis. Participating is easy: Pledge to dedicate a row of your garden or a container to growing food to donate and report to Grow a Row FC the weight or size (example: five carrots) of your donations. No amount is too small.
Additional volunteer garden mentors and hosts for drop-off sites are being sought in addition to growers. Sign up to volunteer on the website or by emailing
