Dear Providence Residents,

The daily updates on COVID-19 can feel overwhelming. I want you to know that we are in this together, and the health and well-being of our community is my first priority. This situation is changing every day and we are working to keep our community updated as issues arise. Fairfax County has set up a site for trusted information on COVID-19 in our area and real time updates on Twitter .

The Board of Supervisors was briefed on March 10th by Dr. Gloria Addo-Ayensu, Director of the Fairfax Health Department. Y ou can watch that briefing video here . She stressed the importance of best practices to prevent the spread of flu, common cold, and coronavirus disease:

  • Wash hands often with soap and warm water. If not available, use hand sanitizer.
  • Avoid touching your eyes, nose, or mouth with unwashed hands. Avoid handshakes.
  • Cover your mouth/nose with a tissue or sleeve when coughing or sneezing.
  • Avoid contact with people who are sick.
  • Stay home while you are sick and avoid close contact with others.

According to the CDC, the immediate risk of being exposed to the virus that causes COVID-19 is thought to be low. Seasonal flu is also still prevalent in the area and seasonal allergies are on the rise. If you are sick, stay home. If you think you may have been exposed to COVID-19, call your healthcare provider immediately.

Please continue to visit the Fairfax County COVID-19 site & Twitter, Virginia Department of Health and CDC for updates as this situation unfolds and please continue to protect yourself and your family by using the best practices listed above. We will get through this situation together.

With gratitude,
Dalia Palchik
