Meet Providence District Supervisor Dalia A. Palchik
|
|
Dear Providence Residents,
I am honored to serve as your new Providence District Supervisor. Over the last month, I have enjoyed hearing from members of the community on issues that affect their daily lives and I want to know how I can help. I have listened to constituents at our Open House and have had conversations with transportation experts, educators, local business leaders, housing experts and more to understand the needs of our community and work together on areas needing improvement. I am grateful to join a dedicated, experienced Board of Supervisors with the shared goal of moving Fairfax forward.
I came to Fairfax from Argentina when I was six years old. I enrolled in ESOL classes in Fairfax County Public Schools, attending Mantua Elementary School, Frost Middle School, and Thomas Jefferson High School for Science and Technology before heading to Tufts University in Boston to study Anthropology. Having taken full advantage of the programs available in Fairfax County, I know the importance of providing these services to widen the circle of opportunity for others in our community.
As Supervisor, I plan to focus on new and creative ways to increase quality affordable housing, bring more thoughtful transit-oriented development to Fairfax County, find new solutions to modernize schools, and commit to a new renewable energy standard.
I am thrilled for the opportunity to serve on the Board of Supervisors and look forward to representing you! Please reach out to me with the issues that are important to you as we work together to move the Providence District forward as a vibrant, inclusive and prosperous community.
With Gratitude,
Dalia Palchik

Supervisor Palchik welcomed o
ver 100 District residents
last week at her first Open House. Three generations of one Providence family came to “meet and greet” Supervisor Palchik and Providence District staff members. Supervisor Palchik listened to concerns and observations from guests who also listed important District issues on a big board which she saved and will use for guidance in her new role. Guests enjoyed delicious treats prepared for the event by Supervisor Palchik’s mother. Thanks to all who joined us!

Glass Recycling a Smashing Success
|
More than four million pounds of clean glass have been collected since the purple recycling bins made their debut in Northern Virginia, and now all that glass is taking on a new life. Some of it goes to Fairfax County’s reprocessing plant in Lorton to be crushed by “Big Blue” and used for county projects, such as pipe bedding and filter material. Other glass is picked up by Strategic Materials, North America’s largest glass recycler, and hauled to one of its recycling facilities, processed and sold to manufacturers of a wide range of glass products. This new process is the result of a policy that went into effect Oct. 1, 2019, excluding glass bottles and jars from curbside recycling bins.
NewsCenter has the story (and video)
Email us any suggestions you have for additional glass recycling pick up locations.

The April 1 census is fast approaching. The nationwide count determines how federal and state funds are distributed to pay for transportation projects, education, healthcare and other public services. Fairfax County could lose $12,000 in funding over the course of a decade for each resident who does not respond to the census. The county is looking for community-based partners to help spread the word, and organizations can sign up

Draft Action Plan for Anticipated Federal Housing Dollars is Ready for Public Comment
|
During FY 2021, Fairfax County is expected to have access to more than $8 million in federal funding to support the creation of and access to affordable housing for individuals and households throughout the county – with particular emphasis on individuals and families experiencing homelessness; those (including seniors) with extremely low incomes; and individuals with disabilities. The county is seeking public comment on the One-Year Action Plan for utilizing federal housing dollars to advance affordable housing countywide during Fiscal Year 2021 (July 1, 2020, through June 30, 2021).
